Loan Watch 2022/2023

He is playing against a Belgian Div 2 side, the same league that Anderlecht reserves play in. Not exclusively but his goals have very much been on a curve of who the opposition is

Hey, if a Wolves player scores a goal I’m taking it regardless of context! The game has gone to extra time now, not a great look for them!

Actually think the break may do him good, he’s played pretty much every game including midweek European matches - 90 minutes a lot of the time too.

So is Sanderson never going to be good enough for our first team? Is he significantly worse than Toti and Mosquera?

We haven't really seen enough of Toti and nothing of Mosquera so it's hard to judge. The problem is Sanderson is the same age as Toti and when they both returned from loan last year Toti was the one to get the nod over him. Mosquera probably needs to go out on loan and he is 2 years younger than Sanderson. Collins is also younger and Kilman only 2 years older so his competition that are already ahead of him at the club are around his age, that's before you even consider we are most likely going to be in for a CB in the next window.

At 23 he probably needs a permanent move. I doubt we will ask too much for him.

The truth probably falls between both statements.

The question really should be is he better, given we do really use those 2?

I don't know the answer to that

I've seen about 5 minutes of Mosquera.
Thought Toti looked decent back up when he played in a back 3 last season, but out of his depth in a 4 this season.
Don't remember if I've seen Sanderson play.

Based on the bits and bobs I've seen over the last few seasons I think I'd go, but I wouldn't die on a hill over it

Toti
Sanderson
Mosquera

I forecast Yerson Mosquera will give it a last try with Lopetegui but, if he's going nowhere after two years with us at the end of the season, I can see him going back to Colombia. Must be tough too for a young single Colombian to make his way in life in the West Midlands. He's too erratic to defend in the PL and obviously he is not trusted. At 21 and after 18 months of a five year deal he's made some good money with us too. Cannot see how a Spanish club would take him on now as he's done nothing basically at a professional level for 18 months.

Mosquera looked so damn good on his debut that I'm still clinging to hope for him.

Weekend roundup:

Dion Sanderson - Birmingham (Championship)

Played a full game in a 2-1 defeat at home to Sunderland. Not much to talk about defensively, but his header teed up Deeney whose own header hit the bar. DS also drilled a shot in at the end that was blocked on the line.

Ryan Giles, Middlesbrough - Championship

Played a full game in a 2-1 win at Norwich. Got forward well down the left again, including a great cross that Boro should have scored from. Didn’t play a part in the goals, though.

Nigel Lonwijk - Plymouth Argyle (League One)

Played a full game in a 1-1 draw at Lincoln and didn’t cover himself in glory with the goal conceded, misjudging a header and letting the forward in to score.

Christian Marques - Forest Green (League One)

Played 80 minutes in a 2-0 defeat at home to Wycombe. FGR are now bottom of the table.

Bendeguz Bolla and Hayao Kawabe - Grasshoppers Zurich (Swiss Super League)

A big win for GHZ in a bunched-up league. Their 1-0 win over Basel puts them within a win of the European places. Bolla got his usual full game, while Kawabe was subbed after 88 minutes.

Fabio Silva - Anderlecht (Belgian Premier)

Played a full game once again in a 2-0 defeat at home to Genk. Had a couple of shots on target but nothing more.

Joe Young - Dartford (National League South)

Played in a 3-1 defeat at Farnborough.

On as sub: Cundle came on for the last 20 minutes in a 0-0 draw at Huddersfield

Unused subs: Corbeanu, Moulden, Hoever, Sang-Bin
Not in squad: O’Shaughnessy, Perry
No game: Campana, Arinbjornsson

Jordao came back a few weeks ago and has has had an operation. Richards is back and playing for the U21s although it hasn't been announced. Presumably if they had an injury crisis he could go back.

We can call back the younger players to play in U21/23 games when on loan if we want. Can't recall them permanently and play them in 1st team games.

Has Campana officially left us for Miami?
Not going to play anymore anyway as the season is done until March.

No, nothing official there. However he can't play for us until January if he does come back as he's too old to be an U21 player now, and we didn't name him in our squad.

He's 21 years old as you say. He's not going anywhere apart from maybe on loan.

Yerson has been to Europe, no way is he going to slip back into the Colombian league. Having put on a Wolves shirt alone means he'll have suitors in leagues that, shall we say, are more reliable in paying wages.
