Live Match Discussion 2024/25

Been a long time since I watched a full match of Championship football and which accepting these are two teams at the wrong end of the table the gulf between this and Premier League now seems huge. I don't remember the quality of football seeming this bad when I used to have a season ticket though, has the quality as this level declined or has the Premier League just progressed to such a standard that it looks awful by comparison?

The 3 promoted clubs last season, plus Leeds finished with 12 points more than everyone else, but look at them this year. Personally I think it's the strength of the PL, rather than the weakness of the Championship, the team in 16th have 3 current Brazilian Internationals

I think you kind of get numbed to it when you watch it every week.

Remember in his first half season Mick had this mob on the outskirts of the playoffs, nearly 20 years ago:

----------------------------Matt Murray------------------

Mark Little---------Gary Breen-------Jody Craddock-----Jamie Clapham

Darren Potter------Karl Henry-----Seyi George Olofinjana-----Rohan Ricketts

---------------------Leon Clarke--------Jay Bothroyd-----------------------

That is NOT a good team.

I think the Championship gets a bad rap because 1) the disparity in wealth between the PL and Champ is absurd, and 2) most of those clubs are so tightly packed from a talent perspective that you’re rarely going to play the opposition off the park.

IMO the small talent delta from top to bottom in the league leaves a high probability of teams canceling each other out, which typically isn’t great for the spectacle of the thing, but which doesn’t necessarily mean that the quality on offer is terribly low.

Still a clear quality gap between 1st in the Championship and 17th in the Prem, by and large. Not arguing that.

I've not seen them play but is Lampard doing a good job with Coventry? Maybe there is a decent manager in there after all, just needs to learn his trade away from the limelight?

I'm watching them against Albion, look far superior to the Baggies and play some decent football. Can't argue with his record since taking over

They look like a top 8 Championship side that could beat a GO managed team.

Lamps did a decent job in this division with Derby, so he can do something at this level.

Watched the Albion game earlier. They were really poor, 2-0 flattered them. They barely threatened Coventry who actually looked quite decent.

I've seen a few of Albion's games lately and they're really not a very good side.

W6 D6 L6 in 2025. Very much Derek Smalls 'lukewarm water' territory.

I mean they're behind Bristol City who I thought were bloody awful against us in the cup.
