I thought the reason was that because it was "serious foul play", the offside being given before it rendered it null. If it had been "violent conduct" action could have been taken. But because Pickford could reasonably be deemed to be challenging for the ball, albeit in a clumsy reckless way, it had to be considered serious foul play and therefore unactionable?
