Live Match Discussion: 2020/21

Just to mention on Blues in a pretty grim state currently if they go down the situation will be even worse than the one they found themselves in the late 80’s to early 90’s.

Prefer it if Rui doesn't earn points for Villa tbh...

Has conceded 2 goals in his last 4 appearances
From how many shots on target?

I am guessing 6 to 8 in 4 games and two have gone in. That’s ok but hardly world beating.

please feel free to highlight the games where Rui has won us points this season. I am going for 0

caveat. Well pissed now on my second bottle of Kruger red wine!

For a former keeper to judge based solely on saves is very odd indeed.
Rui probably earned us points v Arsenal btw. They go 2 or 3 up, as they deserved and they probably don't hit the self destruct button. You seem to delight in Rui making errors so you climb the high ground when other keepers make saves. Such an odd stance.

Another take on Martinez having a great game would also be how have Villa allowed Brighton nearly 30 chances on goal. Keep allowing teams to do that and he won't be keeping many clean sheets in the future.

If keepers were able to move the goalposts as much as you, they'd never concede again. Fucking hell.

I am allowed to not rate him as highly as you,you know. I don’t think he is all he is cracked up to be and never have. I think he is a good keeper but fallible close to him and weak on crosses to often.
It is disingenuous to suggest I delight in seeing a team that I have supported longer than you have been alive ,concede soft goals to defensive errors especially when better goalkeeping could prevent it. He has been in very average form this season. His best games have been for Portugal if you look at the online ratings. He is also one of our highest earners. I now hope he keeps 15 clean sheets and over performs for the rest of the season.
Finally, it is not odd to judge a keeper on shots saved if that is an error of perceived weakness. His saves to shots ratio is one of the worst in the league this season. He sits in the must do better camp. He is not alone there. Moutinho, Fabio, Traore, Dendonker, Coady, are all well down on last years standard hence why we are just above the relegation places.

I don’t understand? My opinion on Rui stems from two seasons ago and has been backed by his performance this season? What is this obsession on here to claim goalposts have been moved? Genuine question

Not said you can't have I?

On his average form, well the whole team as you say, bar a couple have been in average form. Hence our very average point collection and league position. There a lot of factors for our season and I think people are happy to ignore some of them just to have a whinge. We have zero clue on the mental factor from this season and its easily pushed aside.

I said to only judge him on the shots is odd. If you look at the Chelsea result, was an easy night for Rui. Fuck all to do or if you look at the actual game, there is a reason why shots/chances were limited or simple and that was down to Rui himself, whether postioning, movement or organising.

When you played, did you get annoyed after a game where you felt you had organised those in front of you, stopped attacks before they turned into shots etc and you left the field thinking you did well today and your teammates would take the piss saying you had an easy life today you had nothing to do?

He is called a goal keeper not a goal organiser. A one armed man can be a great organiser but I wouldn’t put him in goal.
I have five goals down to Rui
Newcastle
Burnley
Spurs
Palace
Chelsea
That’s one goal in five that we have conceded and that’s too high for me.
I loved it when I had nothing to do thanks to my organising but was always passed off if the opposition had one shot all game and scored from it. Especially if I thought I could have done better with it. Rui will look at those goals and won’t be happy with his part in their concession

and this is the point I walk away and leave you to finish sending your Valentines Cards to Emi and Nick Pope. Pointless talking if you if have no clue what you are talking about.

Have a lovely day x

See you on the match day thread ?

Nope.

I avoid them. As I have said before, if what I was saying during a game I was attending was typed and I would cringe like hell reading them back, so not a fan of reading other peoples real time reactions

I feel this is much more the advice tbh. I mean when someone goes through a thread and pulls out multiple posts late at night to "disagree" with, one can only feel a scrap is being sought out.
such activity makes threads, and longer term more parts of the forum unreadable.

More proof in the Albion/United game that the referees are the problem when it comes to VAR. Utd awarded a penalty that Pawson overturns after looking at the screen after being advised by Moss but Maguire was offside anyway but they didn't even look at it. Very strange.
