Live Match Discussion 2018/19

Lamela’s so underrated, he’s the one man for Spurs trying to break the lines and is constantly calling for the ball in space. Another goal and assist for him tonight as well, he really does deserve to be a starter much more often.

The Liverpool game is shit. I should never have turned over :icon_lol:

It sounds it, I keep looking at SSN for the commentary. The Spurs game has been class to watch, really open and end to end in the second half.

Winks put in one of the tackles of the season on Messi as well.

Lovely ball by Callejon.

Liverpool deserves nothing from that created next to nothing.

Liverpool were appalling, they really need to stop playing Henderson and Milner together as it just kills any chance of playing through the middle so everything goes long and it's easy to defend. They never looked like they had any way of pressuring Napoli tonight either, should've tried changing their shape at some point but Klopp tends to be very much his way or no way.

To be fair Henderson didn't start, Keita went off in the first half (I assume injured, obviously I wasn't watching then). So it's Hendo or Fabinho, it's going to affect your balance either way.

Was it injuries that set him off to a slow start with Spurs? That last season in Roma he truly looked like he had the world at his feet. He was absolutely sublime.

He was Jovetic levels of piss weak in his first season.

I've never been properly convinced by him but he's done well this season so far. When everyone's fit though, I'm not sure who's meant to drop out, I wouldn't pick him ahead of Eriksen, Son or Alli.

He's started with better intentions, in starting Keita, but having that changed forced on him (presumably, as I wasn't the first half either) I feel he's gone too negative though perhaps that first quarter of an hour or so was one way traffic for Napoli and so he's decided to go for something solid. Personally I wouldn't have thought you'd lose any of that solidity by having Fabinho but he's probably the most capable of being more expansive in is play too, I actually think Milner is the biggest problem now as Liverpool have got stronger under Klopp teams take them more seriously now and so setup more negatively in a lot of games, he's a solid pro with a great work ethic but he's never really been the inventive player that's likely to break down an organised team.

Even ignoring the first half, Klopp did nothing to improve them in the second half, swapping a centre midfielder and giving Sturridge a few token minutes felt a bit of a waste when they just never looked like they could lay a glove on Napoli, then were just did nothing to cause them any problems with or without the ball. Think he'd have been better served sacrificing one of the midfield three for either Sturridge or Shaqiri and going 4231, probably better balanced with the ball if you did it with Sturridge and Firmino as the ten but perhaps better without if you bought Shaqiri in as he'll work far harder than Sturridge.

Nice goal from Smith-Rowe for arsenal tonight, looks like he could be a decent player. Let's hope he doesn't end up like the other promising arsenal players over the years.

What is it with Arsenal and mildly promising youngsters with hyphenated surnames?

Its more a newish UK trend i think, plenty of youngsters at wolves with hyphenated names too.

It's not really Arsenal more a generational thing. 20 years ago double barrelling your name when consciously coupling was all the rage over here.

Great marking by West Ham, Brighton 1-0 up through Murray.

Great cross there for Glenn Murray to put BHA 1-0 up against West Ham

One day someone much more qualified than I am will piece together exactly how Glenn Murray became a pretty reliable Premier League goalscorer. I'm stumped though.

Well, it helps if no one is marking him...
