Live Match Discussion 2018/19

God. Watching the FA Cup final build up is actually really difficult! Brings back all the feelings of how close we were...

Oh well - come on City!!!

Football Focus 13.00 - 14.00
Something else
Big interview with Pep 14.30- 15.00
Road to the final 15.00-15.55 (might find this a tough watch at the end!)
Build up from 15.55

There's build up on already?! The game's over 3 hours away yet!

Back in the day, the FA Cup coverage would start proper early, although the game kicked off at some crazy time like 3pm and there wasn't 100 Sports channels and it was the BBC's showcase sporting event (outside of an International tournament)

Not watching the build up. Fuck I am being reminded what happened. Will be bad enough during the game, especially if City go 2 up.

I can remember the early eighties finals and the build up being on both BBC and ITV from about 10am. Football Focus, then FA Cup final Question of Sport vs Saint and Greavsie.

Good point it was on both channels back then and we only had 4 channels to watch. BBC had FA Cup pushed in all their shows before the official stuff started as well. So the Kids TV stuff would be football related that day. Proper went to town on it. Then football was created in 1992 and they slowly started to wind down on the OTT coverage

Saint and Greavsie started in about 1985 maybe 1986, so I guess it was post Swap Shop and Tiswas. So FA Cup Saturday Superstore and whatever the replacement was for Tiswas on ITV.

Tiswas was fucking great BTW.

My parents wouldn't let me watch this anarchy so I had to sit near the telly when it was on and quickly press the button back to BBC if they came in and look like I was enjoying Edmunds and Chegwin sacchirine bollocks rather than ooogling Sally James and giggling at the Bucket of Water Song and the Phantom Flan Flinger.

Different world now though isn't it. A lot more football on TV so there's nothing like the novelty factor there once was.

In years gone by you'd barely have seen anything of majority of games so they could milk it telling you about each teams' route to the final but now it's all old news, everyone already knows. They must really struggle to fill that much time about one game without padding it out with stuff that everyone has already seen or knows.

It was (bar internationals and the Charity Shield and the European finals) the ONLY live game of the season. It was a massive event.

If Sky can fill a 24/7 news channel each day it is easy for everyone else (by fill I mean repeat the same shit every 20 mins). Just chuck in large interviews with the managers, do some silly shit with the players and 2 hours are gone before you know it.

I guess its BBC's attempt to cling on to those good old days of Sports coverage

The BBC love their anachronisms. Last Night of the Proms still on every single year. Never move the news from BBC One at its appointed time, everything else must be shifted, even though they have a news channel showing the same thing. Peter Alliss still being employed. The shipping forecast still existing.

News won't shift until the generation that watches it at its fixed times (1pm, 6pm & 10pm) move on. I doubt my inlaws know they have access to 24/7 news but they watch the News at 6 and then switch over for ITV's at 6.30 (not sure if they think the news will be different)

Right now Radio 4 longwave listeners must leave the cricket so some pillock can say North and South Utsire and Dogger quite a lot to a load of blokes on boats who have radar weather systems that are rather more fucking accurate.

And radio 4 listeners are back. You have only missed two wickets.

Does my fucking head in massively

Don't forget FA cup Superstars !

Longwave? Are you listening to the cricket in the 1920's?

In the car usually I have it set on 198. My Merc doesn't have a DAB system as far as I know. I could plug the phone in and take the radio signal off that I guess but I think I might need some technical assistance from Squeeze to make it happen.

Aux speaker, Tune In Radio app. Should be away.
