Genius implies some measure of forethought. Athletics in general and flowing sports especially are much more reactionary. Clever, sure, but genius is simply the wrong word.

All semantics, I know. Just a pet peeve of mine.

I have never associated pre-determination as a requirement of 'genius'.

I think you're off on this one Al.

genius

noun
1.
exceptional intellectual or creative power or other natural ability.

2.
an exceptionally intelligent person or one with exceptional skill in a particular area of activity.

It's being used in this thread more as an adjective, which is a relatively new usage and really a substitute for ingenious:

ingenious

adjective
(of a person) clever, original, and inventive.

Messi, on all counts.

There we go Alan, genius was the right word ;)

Yeah I always consider genius to be the opposite of what Alan said. No thought required because they are so good at it.

Motherwell now 2-0 up against Rangers. Aggregate score 5-1...

Good. Best thing for Ranger is a season outside the Prem and allow the new owners a chance to sort out the fuck ups from the last few seasons. Get rid of the overpaid wasters.

Might be in the Championship but they will still be a massive pull for a lot of players.

The question really is McCall, has he done enough in his short time in charge (granted that he's had to use the squad he inherited, which is shit) to be given a longer run at it?

I don't think he has to be honest. The way they have played hasn't been much more than what Ally McCoist was producing.

Back in August who would have thought that neither Rangers or Hibernian would return to the Scottish Premier League?

Good, I hope he stays as manager for the next 5 years in that case.

I will also say the Scottish Play Offs need sorting. Rangers play 6 games in around 22 days at the end of the Season - Motherwell play 2. Pointless having that 3rd v 4th place game.

To be honest, I though Rangers and Hearts would stay down and Hibs go up. Amazing turn around for Hearts really, they were a shambles.

Quite a lot of links to Ian Cathro who is currently coaching at Valencia. Did a great job in setting up Dundee Utd's Academy and all the good players they have produced recently. That is probably more what they need in the longer term - assuming he is manager material. Worth giving McCall a go in the short term as he couldn't fail to be better than McCoist or McDowell, but there's little point in having Ally Mk II in charge if that's his style of play (although I doubt he would piss quite so much money up the wall on 30+ year olds).

Is it simply a case of using a style to suit the players at hand?

I thought Rangers would win the league, and one of the two Edinburgh clubs to win the play offs. But I did not realise then how the play off system was balanced in the premier league clubs favour.
