LIVE! Match discussion 2014/15

Played the whole of the second half I think mate.

Aah ok..just watched the first 15 before getting some food

Came on in the 63rd min i see..but no excuse anyway..i heard torres got a standing ovation despite not doing much as usual

Yeah Torres did very little when I was watching the game (was flicking between that and Walsall game).

Considering how good he once was, it's strange to see a team just using him as a workhorse. Under Simeone he will just be asked to run himself into the ground, and let the others do the creative side I reckon.

Suppose chelsea got rid in the right time

Well, I'd say Liverpool did!

Yeah, of course! :icon_lol: shit, how many millions did they pay in that january trade?? But liverpool has done their own mistakes now paying much over the top for many players this season..

Chelsea paid £50m for him which made very little sense given he hadn't looked the same ever since a knee injury 8-9 months beforehand. Some thought it was him just being a sulky twat at Liverpool after Rafa left (he was being a sulky twat tbf, but that was a side issue as it turns out). Around 2008ish he had a decent claim on being the best out and out centre forward in the world. At times since he's looked like a League One player, his general play is awful let alone his finishing which is laughable most of the time nowadays. He does try but he's been done for a long time. By rights Chelsea should have got rid a long time ago but hard to find takers with the wages he was on, plus Abramovich was desperate to get it to work, he'd already had one vanity purchase in Shevchenko go horribly wrong and he did everything possible to try not to make it a second. Even going as far to appoint Rafa, knowing it would really piss the fans off, knowing he played pretty shit football, all to appease Torres and try to get the best out of him. I'm convinced they let Drogba leave for similar reasons, reckoning they had to make Torres the clear #1 to get returns from him - still didn't work, he was rubbish.

Liverpool could have laid claim to a great deal....if they hadn't then gone and lamped £35m on Carroll.

At times over the last few years it has just looked like Torres has given up, every now and again he had a little flash of the old Torres for 5 minutes or so in a game where he looked like he might be turning a corner but then as soon as something went wrong he was back to a useless lump for a couple weeks/months. I suppose some just haven't got the mentality to get over it when they suffer injuries that knock huge chunks out of their game, others are more able to adapt and give themselves a chance of doing something with the rest of their career.

Thing is, these past four years are meant to have been his best! He joined at 26, so he really should have got even better during his time with Chelsea. Instead, he's not looked able to cope with a loss of pace and from that seems to have lost his belief in himself to score the simplest of chances.

He was at one point, as Dan says, the best striker in the world. he was frightening, defenders had no idea what to do. Regularly tore Vidic apart who at the time was one of the best defenders in the world!

One of Torres' favourite tricks was just simple knock and run tactics. Unfortunately he still tries it but hasn't got the pace, strength of control. Just kicks it out of play, into the player or gets it round them but then struggles to get back on the ball as he is too slow or too weak.

He never had lightning pace, but had a good 5 yards. He's lost the acceleration but you'd still think he can make something as a poacher. Shame he can't finish anymore either

Spot the scouts tonight as Manchester City U21 play Chelsea U21, should be a live stream for those interested in potential signings.

Watching Barcelona v Elche. All Barcelona predictably and Elche have defended quite well so far, but they've been helped by how rubbish Suarez has been.

I really like Sergi Roberto though. Great ability and has worked tirelessly so far.

EDIT: As I say that Suarez squares and Neymar scores a tap in

And then he scores, you really fucked up your very good point here! :)

3-0, Messi penalty. Took them sometime but Elche just crumbled

Montpellier 1-0 Marseille.

No shirt lifting on this occasion
