Keir Starmer at it again..

I assume the motivation for the Times is they can hopefully get something to attack Starmer with.

Mandelson needs to read up on his Oscar Wilde. Paraphrasing To be unlucky once is unfortunate, to be unlucky twice is carelessness.

Expand that to four times and chuck in your own word - I like criminal

I'm no fan of Corbyn's politics but at least he is honest.

Red Ed. 🤷‍♂️

Ridiculous how anyone from a more traditional Labour viewpoint is framed by the media. I heard a BBC reporter on fivelive mention the hard left when reporting on those who are against Starmer. The majority of the Labour Party today wouldn’t look out of place within the Conservative Party of 40 years ago.

Streeting won't go be the first to challenge apparently, so someone else needs to start the ball rolling. I doubt Miliband has any real appetite for it.

Also, a huge no to David Miliband ever returning.

He picked up the centre, partly because there was a void as the Conservatives lurched miles right as they shat themselves about Farage.

Does a Corbyn manifesto pick up those votes? History suggests not.

However, those on the left that held their nose about Starmer to get the Conservatives out are going to take one hell of a lot of convincing to pinch those nostrils a second time.

I think it is one of the fundamental problems with Labour being a broad church. It is just a very difficult sell to keep both wings of the party onside. And that applies whether you are Starmer or Corbyn.

Lied through his teeth to get the membership vote. Didn't lie in the GE as much IMO but definitely pushed the 'change' card in terms of corruption and decency which looks hilarious now. Most of their votes came from people just wanting the Tories out which is why it's now collapsed. And Reform stole loads of Tory votes too of course.

He was lucky in that the Conservatives just looked as bad as they have in a political lifetime and then proceeded to go right in the shadow of reform, rather than going centre where the elections tend to be decided.

He succeeded once. Not a lot of evidence that the trick will work twice. If he leaks the core support on the left then he is in big trouble at the next GE.

He won't be running in the next GE, i doubt he'll be PM by August.

Streeting tactics regarding Mandelson are interesting! Not sure it'll pay off.

Is Streeting the only viable candidate to challenge at the moment? Lack of alternatives might keep him about for a while yet, but like you say next election would be a bit of a reach looking at how it is currently.

Rayner seems to be positioning herself to be, but I'm not sure how successful that would be.

Burnham can't become PM currently, outside of that I can only see Streeting.

I guess Mahmood or Cooper might go for it?
