Keir Starmer at it again..

Yep, Network Rail itself has been state-run for nearly 10 years now and a number of train operators are the same (including the whole East Coast Mainline).

It doesn't mean you end up with British Rail II.

Crap idea, un-costed blah blah blah, left wing lunatics.

What do you mean that you don't have to pay anything as the franchise contracts come to an end?

But Rail Minister Huw Merriman said the plans were "pointless" and "unfunded".
He said Labour doesn't have a "plan to pay for the bill attached to their rail nationalisation", arguing it would eventually lead to tax rises.

Even when a plan is put forward the Conservatives insist that Labour doesn't have a plan. 🤦‍♂️

Important to note it’s only nationalisation of the operating companies, not the rolling stock providers.

Better half than none but will mean the system still has a fair bit of price gouging built in behind the scenes.

Currently waiting for my third Stafford to London train this week and it’s the third time it’s been late.

It's a welcome step in the right direction but hard to get too excited without the rolling stock.

Long read on rolling stock ownership from the RMT. Be warned though - it can get a bit too sexy at points.

and is stepping down at the election despite having a 23k majority, so a real statement rather than political cowardice

It doesn't miss MY point that it's a load of bollocks that this is such big news given everything else that has happened over the last 14 years.

It fucks me off that it's accepted and shrugged off when a Tory is corrupt, when an MP of a different party might be its huge news and there's a load of handwringing.
Greater Manchester Police chief Stephen Watson, who unexpectedly reopened the investigation into Angela Rayner’s addresses, spoke at the last Tory conference.

The appearance raised questions about his political impartiality, as since the event he's garnered Tory support for leading the Metropolitan Police due to his "robust" approach. He’s backed by MP James Daly... who advocated for the Rayner investigation's reopening.

Full story in the new Private Eye, out now.
