Keir Starmer at it again..

And by looking at it from the other side of the labour fence, as it were, I think you sort of confirm my point about the underlying issue with the labour broad church.

The wings on both sides are never both satisfied at the same time by the look of it. Not sure if there is a solution, either.

The result will be, as always, a right wing government - mostly likely a nasty Tory / Farage hybrid.
This is exactly it. The certain outcome of a win for those getting stuck in (rightly or wrongly) getting stuck in. They might not see it in the student common rooms, but there’s no alternative when it comes to the real election. Not when defence and the economy are on the line. It’s the boring truth.

I think Starmer solved it himself to a large extent by isolating or removing much of the left wing of the PLP. There's probably only a handful of MPs like that in Labour now. And about half the membership have left. The PLP and the membership are probably more aligned now than they've been for some time.

Don't call me childish please.

Ever since Starmer assumed the leadership, the left of the party have been sniping at him about everything because he isn't "their" labour. It is actually a central problem of Labour trying to be a broad church. And it happens EVERY time the party moves to a more moderate stance in order to actually get some power.
You've called me plenty of things over the years Paddy, and stamp your virtual feet whenever I talk about something you don't want to talk about. So suggesting you are childish for bringing "the left" into something that has nothing to do with politics, just an issue of pure what is right and wrong is worthy of comment and does to me, come across as childish.

But I won't do it again.

For clarity, Starmer should resign over this, whether I'm left, right, north or south my view would be exactly the same.

Well you are of course entitled to your perception. I think I have given a perfectly erudite reason for why the left was brought into it by my post. I have even discussed that with TP above, who is most certainly from that point of view. All without insult, but just a discussion of what is a fundamental problem for the broad church that labour like to propound (and from BOTH wings of the party, which I happily concede I should have stated rather than just the left).

Turning to your final line, if Starmer has knowingly misled parliament then the standard consequence should be resignation. It always has been unless your name is Boris Johnson.

So we now have the somewhat farcical show of a government spin machine tying itself in knots to try and not admit that is was knowingly misleading. And the next question being asked is 100% correctly "if you didn't know then it would be incompetent not to know". Not a good look at all, but the government seem to have worked out that knowingly mislead = resignation, incompetent does not. All very messy. And it will cost votes.

Robbins was appointed Permanent Under-Secretary of State at the FCDO on 8 January 2025. 19 days after Mandelson was appointed.

There is nothing nway in the world that Starmer wasn't involved in the decision to overrule the vetting. The suggestion is utterly absurd and basically taking us all for fucking mugs

If Starmer didnt know he's incompetent, if he did know he's a liar and incompetent.

Either way he needs to gew Franksy.

I mean, his nickname was The Prince of Darkness dating back to the late 90s.😂 Doesnt take a genius to work out he's dodgy as fuck.

So not only did he not know about the vetting he appointed him without the proper vetting anyway? Or am I reading that wrong
