Keir Starmer at it again..

This morning Starmer was talking about apprenticeships and went on to state his father did one. For a brief moment I actually thought he might not go on to say his father was a toolmaker but he did, twice. Do his aides not advise him that the whole world knows this now and continually mentioning it makes him sound ridiculous? Sadly politics these days is as much about presentation as policy and he’s dreadful at it. Whilst he can’t do much about his droning speech pattern he can choose what to say. It’s like a Fast Show sketch and he doesn’t realise he’s the joke.
He's really awful at that stuff. It's a major problem because when you're the empty administrator type that he is, all you've got to get by on is image and likeability.

As an aside I asked Dan neidle and he said he didn't know any economist who subscribed to mmt. I feel like it's one of those things that if the public really understood it would change everything
MMT is fringe theory that relies on 'Economists hate this one cool trick' clickbaitery.

The idea is that governments can essentially print money 'for free', but its fine as long as you dont do it too much, because thats inflationary.

So therefore its basically QE on steroids, rather than anything more revolutionary. Some of the wilder assertions are just that, assertions, with minimal evidence that it will actually work.

.
Stephanie Kelton. Wrote a fabulous book called the deficit myth.
I've just started listening and it's very interesting, albeit already it's the same concept explained multiple ways.

I agree with the premise that the idea of running a budget completely changes in context when you can create money.

And the fact that a govt running a deficit is actually a good thing. The Conservatives 'won' in 2010 purely by banging on about that the whole time. Then we had 14 years of needless austerity. Horrible.

And the evidence is there from Weimar Germans taking a wheelbarrow of money to buy an egg that it doesn't work
That is a huge simplification.

Pre & Post WW1 Germany had many reasons for printing money such as post war reparations, the 1923 French/Belgian invasion of the Ruhr as examples...

Inflation is caused mainly by supply side shocks. “Money printing” is a lie to make people believe govt spending is bad and must be kept in check.

I think this needs to happen tbh. I know the numbers of cases the ECHR has overturned is miniscule (is it 13?) but at the end of the day if reforming it can make a difference to the narrative then it's one less reason for people to vote for Reform.

It goes against the wokerati in me, but I think if any visitor to the UK commits a serious crime on our soil they should be fucked off back to wherever they came, no ifs no buts no coconuts. I don't care if it's a warzone, you should've behaved yourself

Disappointed to see Polanski posting on a fascist shit site. He should have the strength of his principles and not help fascism.
