Keir Starmer at it again..

Love how he politely hands him his glasses back.

Was it a visit to the pub or just a walk down that street? Seems they only went in as he wanted to talk to him where a) they weren't blocking the road and b) he might have got a word in rather than standing listening to an angry rant.

Probably also checking to see if he had a mic on before calling him a cunt...

Starmer going for his Neil Kinnock/ Ed ‘Bacon Sarnie’ Milliband moment early on in his tenure with possibly the most embarrassing boxing video since Amir Khan’s last fight.

Much like Trump, there's always some way the fat cunt who actually is in charge is worse.

Hopefully he can now give up the flag waving crap. You aren't going to out patriot a man who'll send warships to the Channel Islands to fight the French on the day of an election.

Hartlepool won't be terminal another couple in the next year or so probably will be though

Looking at the swing in that election. Lost 9% of the vote but the Tories gained 20%+. So, how do you convince a lot of racists to vote for you without being a Farage/Johnson clone?

You can't.

I just don't see how it changes, thoroughly depressing.

The independent picked up 10%, assume that is where the labour 9% went.

Got to accept that, for the moment, there is a healthy 40 to 50% of the country who are happy with a bunch of corrupt bigots in charge.

I'm prepared to give him the full length of this Parliament.

I heard an interesting piece by Chris Mason on the radio this morning where he states that the Conservatives have sold themselves as some sort of insurgents in the North, with lines such as what have Labour done for you. The fact that Labour have have been out of power for 11 years is lost on the electorate who are now voting for the party led by a lying cnut.

The levelling up agenda/mantra makes me mad too as last week they had to appoint someone to the role as there isn't any real plans for it. Look at the social care statement that was made outside No. 10 when he took on the job saying that they had a plan. The plan still hasn't seen the light of day (I wonder why that is?) and now its been kicked further down the road. The Government are up in front of the courts on an almost weekly basis and losing case after case. They are appalling on multiple fronts, they voted against feeding children, have gone back on their word about the cost of cladding yet a proportion of the electorate are lapping it all up.

As what EP said - thoroughly depressing.

As I said a couple of weeks ago the issue is before they went to UKIP they were Labour, they are now Tory. To be elected he has to get them back, but fucking the flag isn't the way - not that I know what is

UKIP/Brexit/Reform have increased their number of councillors in Derby to 6. Visit Alvaston where they are racist and proud

Do we want a party in power which has to appeal to and win the votes of racists? We have one now, don't really want another.

It looks like there was nothing Starmer could have done to win Hartlepool anyway, for now Labour have lost towns like that. Corbyn would have lost it at the GE if it hadn't been for the Tice and the Brexit Party getting such a large share of the vote.

I just can't begin to understand how people in the more deprived areas of the country don't blame 11 years of Conservative rule for their problems. Yes, Labour have been a poor opposition for a number of years but convincing tradtional Labour voters that voting Tory will improve their lives has been an absolute masterstroke.

The future looks bleak but surely the Conservatives will have to take the blame for something at some point?

We have a fundamentally right wing society, that's your problem. Doesn't matter whether you or I disagree with right wing (often cheap and populist for good measure) politics, we are patently not the majority and our shite electoral system means anyone who isn't a Tory is shut out for good.

The Blair/Brown years are the aberration, otherwise for the entire last 42 years the country has chosen a Government of whatever right wing hue, frequently one that does cuntish things. It doesn't seem to matter. And New Labour weren't especially left wing either.

Here's the rub as well, of all those Tory Governments, the best one they probably had was the only one that to date has been voted out. Major presided over a strong economic recovery, they had a decent quality of Cabinet Minister on the whole, they headed off the anti-EU headbangers and Major himself seems quite a nice guy, whether you agree with his politics or not. All the others fail on at least one count there. The current one fails on all of them.

I actually have no idea what the population wants.

Tactical voting and the parties of the left working together would be the way to defeat the Tories at the next GE but Labour seem reluctant to take part in this. They still think they can win it on their own.

If I remember it correctly, despite winning a big majority at the last election, there were plenty of seats that the Conservatives won by a very small margin.

a) jingoism
b) isolationism
c) selfishness, both in your local community and wider afield
d) the notion of superiority
It’s the last one that grates the most with me.

Driven by a press owned by scum and pedalling fear of foreigners.

There needs to be a break up of that particular institution but there’s no one in power with the inclination or desire to do so as it’s a fascist goal to control the press.

Until the population hears and reads different voices they will vote how they’re being told to. As is often misattributed to Mark Twain, “If voting made a difference they wouldn’t let us do it”.

How are they going to react when the deal with India is signed and essentially free movement for people to come and live in the UK without work
