Just how good were/was/is/are (Wolves Edition)

Never really had a strong positive opinion of him, but having watched a lot of the season reviews from his era lately, i was surprised how often he popped up with a goal or a good assist.

The Bradford goal was indeed a pearler:

I'd forgotten we scored all the goals so late.

In retrospect we winged that game! Answers on a postcard what Micky is doing on the first highlight.

Carl was the archetypal 1 in 5 player and another who got forgiven for being a home grown ' talent ' - bit like Danny B. In terms of a player who could get us promoted he was nowhere near but fairly useful in the second tier. I felt he was a holding player could possible put a tackle in but couldn't pass wind. Done alright as a coach though. David Jones was what Carl wanted to be but when we never had a midfield until super Alex Rae and the Guv'nor.

A lot of long sleeve shirts in the 90s.

I could play, I even got paid to play in Germany. These being the days when I could run without everything falling to bits inside 20 seconds. Kenny will tell you, I've had my knee and my hamstring go just by standing up in the last 18 months. Held together with sticky tape now.

But there are levels, I never had the fitness levels required to go any further than good amateur football and being honest I don't think I had the ability either. It's all very well playing one Becks style crossfield ball, stroking your hair and thinking you look good. How about the rest of it?

At absolute best if I'd tried my absolute hardest I could maybe have done it at Conference North or the level below that. But that isn't a career, so fuck that.

Bloody hell Deutschy never had you down as a footballer more somebody who played hockey or stuff like that. Alcohol, women and shit pitches cut short my career.

I think a lot of our players get MORE stick for being home grown than less. Naylor, Robinson, MGW, Batth definitely have all got differing levels of abuse down the years.

Some totally deserved it though, Leon Clarke being one of them.

I did play hockey at school! Stupid game. I have a fingernail that never grows properly now because of that.

I don't know why you got that impression of me though :icon_lol: I sound a lot posher than I am...

I only played it once and every violent bastard at school loved it (which says everything). Having said that it was all Rugby and Cricket where I went.

Not so sure - maybe the South bank. For some weird reason people would cream themselves over Stearman and Baath. I thought they were shocking - the reason for Kenny's downfall. I saw the Stearman piece that they did on the Wolves TY with that shit commentator and I thought he came across as thinking he was better than he was. Where is he now ?

Huddersfield.

I didn't mind him in his first season or two thinking he was a young defender who would develop. He never did.

Absolutely loathed him when he came back on loan, total shite.

And he was. Suspect the Fulham debacle was over the head of the coach. Right back under Mick I remember where he got by but couldn't really add to an attack which is a prerequisite of a capable EPL defender. Zubar came closer which says a lot.

Anfield.

I always liked Carl Robinson, really wanted him to do well, no idea why, he just never quite got there. I actually thought he started to improve towards the end of his time here but the purchase of Rae really put the kybosh on his time here, he was never going to compete with him
