Israel-Palestine

Interesting that the Tories seem to have completely abandoned their previous position.
They were the most divided behind the 3 party statements. Some were all in favour of a ceasefire, others such as honest Bob and Miriam Cates were happy for the bloodshed to continue until all Hamas militants were destroyed.

A historical moment today. Showed the sheer moral degradation of the British political system. Grotesque.

Very interesting to see the far left and the Tories on the same side, sign of things to come perhaps.

Let's not forget that this motion was brought again by the SNP in order to sow discord and spread division within the Labour Party. It's somewhat remarkable that they managed to come out of it with their ammendment passed.
To pretend that whatever result in the HoC would have any bearing on what happens in the Middle East is fantastical.

I mean, their leader has family in Gaza.

Well that's just comedy, I don't know why you continue to post his Tweets

Owen Jones is 1 part wanting to stop suffering in Gaza to 99 parts wanting Starmer to look bad. So obvious.

No doubt that the speaker has put his role at risk at allowing this although I think that Starmer could have/should have backed the SNP motion rather than convince the speaker to change Parliamentary precedence. He could have stood in the house and said this is Labour's position, we haven't got that position as an amendment so therefore we will support the SNP's position as its closest to ours however with the caveat that our amendment would have been the choice of the Labour benches.
It makes sense that the Conservatives pulled the plug as they knew that they were at risk of losing a vote. If they were confident of winning they could have voted down the Labour amendment and the SNP motion.
I could understand the SNP being angry but there were several hours between the decision of the speaker and then it turning nuclear in the house. The point where it kicked off again was Penny Mordaunt pulling the Conservatives own amendment from going to a vote which left the SNP unable to have a vote on their motion. The SNP had previously stated earlier in the day that they would back the Labour one.

An "emergency debate on Gaza" has been offered by Hoyle. Not sure if that will be a do-over, yesterday will be voided, or the same amendments voted on, or whatever the fuck is going to happen.

Yesterdays vote won't count for anything anyway as opposition day votes aren't legally binding.

The Government won't be keen on having one if they can't be guaranteed to win the vote on their wording.
