Huddersfield (A) build up 20/2/16

We only played three league games (Charlton, Bolton and Brighton, four points) between Stearman leaving and Batth coming back.

If you have two genuine keepers fighting for one spot then it is fair enough to fuck them off when they're performing like clowns. If Emi isn't staying then we need a new keeper as Ikeme has conclusively proven that we can't trust him, so many goals have been at least partially his fault and it's not like he's constantly peppered with shots like Hen was in 2012/13.

I do have some sympathy with KJ about the goalkeeping situation. Ikeme had a few decent seasons - I don't buy the argument that his confidence was shot because KJ brought in another keeper to challenge him. That wouldn't say much for Ikeme's character if it were true, and frankly if he wasn't performing to the best of his abilities (which he wasn't) then he can't complain about being dropped.

Anyway, Martinez dropped some clangers too, he lost his place. Ikeme had the chance to redeem himself but he didn't, so it was back to Martinez until he got injured. It's simple really - don't play well, you're at risk of losing your place. I just wish that practise applied to the rest of the squad.

But DB without an experienced CH next to him, has been one of our biggest problems this season.

The manager obviously wanted Batth and Hause to be the partnership. We've played 31 games and they've started six together. I'd say it's less 'experience' and more EEL and Batth being an awful partnership as they both have the exact same limitations and weaknesses.

Stearman was no leader, he has played a lot of games but he is never going to be the senior man out there. We tried him in that role early on this season and he was awful.

If he can't lead the line in this division (given his age and games under his belt) then we have severe problems.

We HAVE severe problems defending.

Also EEL next to Doherty is a massive problem. Hello massive channel where neither player can turn and both are on the wrong side. We had issues with it last season when Doherty was at RB next to Batth and it's even worse now.

Now this is obviously crazy talk, but I might have looked at signing a left back who can defend, run and turn rather than sticking a bloody awful right back there. But then what do I know about football.

I am in heavy anticipation at what wonders await us on Saturday. You never know we might play with two strikers. There is a realistic chance that we will be taken apart. Might have a few quid on Coady being sent off.

We only appear to have two modes at the moment, grind out an awful draw or get beaten with a degree of comfort. It shouldn't be that way, even with what we've got. We don't need to relentlessly give the ball away for instance, nor do we need to leave our one striker more isolated than Tom Hanks in Castaway.

Ken will aim for a 0-0 - he's been going on about us needing to be more solid and conceding fewer (try picking a goalkeeper who doesn't have feet made of lead, I say) and either we'll get it, which will please no-one but him, or we'll concede reasonably early and lose. I don't see with this approach how he reasonably expects to win games.

Deutschy - You've inadvertently actually hit on something there. A volleyball called Wilson being blown about by the wind would offer more creativity and movement than our midfield.

Saw Danny Batth's post match interview from the weekend earlier on, when asked why we are conceding so many goals he seemed to think it was because teams are soaking up pressure and breaking on us..........

Though if you were able to organise the defence properly Danny that would probably help as well

We were never getting that money again for Stearman. Business wise it made sense, footballing wise (as all we spent the money on was a winger we never use) then it's debatable. I still say he would have made negligible difference, he isn't very good.

Our biggest issue all season defensively has been Ikeme, he has been diabolical.

I'd add Batth and Iorfa to that too, I think both have been downright poor.

I agree. He's being made out to be far better than he actually is (Denes Rosa syndrome) due to our current frailties. I too don't think he'd have made much difference and totally understand why he was sold. And he can't get into a side who have conceded 11 more league goals than we have this season.

I think that's very harsh on Stearman.

I remember the likes of Sako and Afobr being dropped by Wolves does that mean they aren't as good as we know they are? Sometimes you get dropped, it doesn't devalue the player's talent.

Jackett still insisting Wolves can win promotion this season. God knows what he's been drinking. Meanwhile super loan signing Lardy Holt has joined Rochdale for the rest of the season

Yep. Tried hard, passed on, set the goal up, put decent balls down the line.

We are allowed to not slate a player occasionally on here?!

Ha - of course! And you know it's not like me to be overly negative. But I thought he was atrocious, except the lovely pass for Mason's goal. His ball control is unbelievably poor for a professional footballer.
