Huddersfield (A) build up 20/2/16

Without Henry we are seriously short on width - RVLP and Byrne are our only fit senior wingers, right?

Considering Wallace is playing well for Millwall on the right of a 442, I imagine I'm not the only one who'd like to recall him and give him a shot. If we did that, I'd put out something like this:

Siggy
RVLP - Mason - Wallace
Price - McDonald
Deslandes - Williamson - Iorfa - Byrne

I worry we might be ruining Iorfa by relying on him so much for extra attacking width down the right, and having his defensive learning suffering as a result. Byrne's a proper wing-back, and I imagine better at it than Doherty, so I'd rather him there, with Iorfa and Williamson under instruction to sit deeper and play the ball out of defence. Williamson and Iorfa would make for a pretty classic stopper/ball-player centre-back combo, at least until Hause is fit. (If he is, I'd have him in there either in place of Iorfa, to give him a rest, or in place of Deslandes). That front four should still have a bit of creativity about it, too, as long as the team as a whole is told to a) try to play along the floor, and b) to try and play balls through the opposition defence for the wide players to run onto and cross into Siggy.

But no chance we'll get this. It'll probably be a straight 442 with RVLP and Siggy up front, Byrne right, Rowe left, and a couple of training cones placed randomly in the centre of midfield. The ball will be sailing over their heads anyway, not like they're needed at the moment.

That's a horrible back four. Iorfa needs a rest, not moving him inside to a position he's played once in his senior career and Byrne is not a full back. He was poor in L1 there and improved for being moved onto the wing.

I agree Nando too many changes at once, it's a horrible back four we have anyway but Williamson alone will make a massive difference if he continues as he did when on loan. Batth or EEL would be fine along side him, I would prefer EEL his distribution is better than Danny's. Deslandes would benefit to get some minutes from the bench but then that involves Kenny making sensible if any substitutions.

Well, he likes bringing full backs on. The number of times he's previously bought Doherty on when we've been chasing a win* is abhorrent.

*defending a draw...

If Williamson is back fit this would be my team:

------------------------Martinez-------------------------------

Iorfa-----------Batth-------------Williamson------Deslandes

------------------Price--------------McDonald----------------

Wallace-----------------Mason--------------------------Byrne

--------------------------Siggy--------------------------------

Subs: Ikeme, Doherty, EEL, Coady, van la Parra, Le Fondre, Enobakhare

Futile to even try guessing what the manager will do. Fitness permitting I'd go:

-------------------------------Martinez----------------------

Iorfa----------------Batth----------Williamson-----------Hause

Wallace------------Price-----------McDonald------------Byrne

-------------------Sigurdarson-----Mason-----------------------

Wallace has been playing wide right for Millwall and doing well by all accounts. In the absence of many other options we might as well give him a go, VLP doesn't deserve to keep the shirt after Saturday. In fact, even leaving that aside we might as well have a look at him, you could have three months here to see if he's really up to Championship football with no real penalty as we have nothing to play for, or we could make sure he is definitely good enough to play for Millwall in League One. Which one is more beneficial to us, I wonder.

Play a proper front two, again why not try something different to the formula which hasn't worked all season, Sig is no lone striker and nor is Mason if we try wanging the ball at his head. At least they might be able to link up if they're not stood 30 yards away from each other.

We can't stifle a team by sending out a defensively minded midfield so don't even bother.

2015/16: W 3-0 (H)
2014/15: L 1-3 (H), W 4-1 (A)
2012/13: L 1-3 (H), L 1-2 (A)
2000/1: L 0-1 (H), L 0-3 (A)
1999/0: L 0-1 (H), L 0-2 (A)
1998/9: D 2-2 (H), L 1-2 (A)
1997/8: D 1-1 (H), L 0-1 (A)
1996/7: D 0-0 (H), W 2-0 (A)
1995/6: D 0-0 (H), L 1-2 (A)

People keep putting Wallace in - is he back then (or is it wishful thinking)?

No, but we can recall him now if we want.

Since we sent him out on loan all of Zyro, Graham, Edwards and Henry have got injured so it beggars belief that we're leaving him where he is.

Now you know thats not likely to happen - even if clearly it should.

Byrne will play on the right with Rowe (or Saville/VLP/whoever's looking after the kit) shoehorned in on the left

Love to see Wallace back but it won't happen and if any of the centre backs come out it has to be Batth who has been awful for a long time now.

I get the impression in that interview that Kenny Jackett views Jed Wallace as a wide player for the right hand side.
I dont think he has a clue who to play wide left against Huddersfield.

Agree with your interpretation. Though VLP has regressed again & Byrne looks a little lightweight.

Would want Wallace given a go, at a time when it will make little difference to our likely end position (somewhere btween 10th & 15th I suspect) to see whether he can step up further or not

TBH I just want to see some other players given a chance - Saville and Coady simply aren't good enough and you can't tell me we don't have other players who could come in and do a better job. At least Byrne should get a run out now Henry is out, but even then it's only happened because KJ's hand is forced due to injuries. (I thought Byrne was shit on Saturday FWIW but it'd be very harsh to judge him on that one appearance - he needs a run of games to show what he can do).

Coady has worse ball control than my 1 year old niece, I've no idea why he's still in the side.

As for the defence - it's never a good thing when we should be looking to rest who has played the least shit, because none of Iorfa, Batth, EEL or Doherty could have any complaints if they were left out.

Its likely Kortney Hause will gain first team selection against Huddersfield but should he go to left back or left sided centre back?

He's been playing wide right for Millwall.

Anywhere. TBH I wouldn't be against him going in goal.

Yep, I know, waste of his talent in my opinion limiting his effectiveness.

However, if Ken recalled him and played him wide right for us he wouldn't be wasting his talent as much as leaving him to play wide right in a League One team. It will be crazy if we don't give him a go at any point between now and the end of the season with so many players out injured.
