Grimsby 0-1 Wolves - FA Cup - verdict thread

Just watched the highlights. It probably wasn't pretty for anyone who went or watched live but fair play to them for getting through that. Everything was pointing to a cup upset yesterday so from someone who is very reticent to give this club any credit right now I have to say well done.

Arsenal (H)
Palace (A)
Villa (H)
Liverpool (H)
Brentford (A)

The next 5 games are going to be a real struggle IMO. I think with the way we're currently playing you can probably count on a draw or 2 but wins are going to be hard to come by. Edwards will be hoping that being in the 5th round of the Cup will keep our dying season alive for a few more weeks.

That game must have been absolutely draining for the players. The conditions were awful and honestly the pitch looked terrible — not much quality football on display, but you really can’t question the effort from the team.

With Arsenal coming up midweek and the league situation looking tough, it makes sense to focus on the cup, but I was also surprised we didn’t see more substitutions. Hopefully André isn’t carrying another injury after playing so long, because that would be a big mistake.

At the end of the day, we’re through to the next round and that’s what matters. And yeah, Santi was easily MOTM for me too.

It was pretty awful 🤣 Can't really add to the verdict thread, as my view of the action was sub optimal, coupled with a decent amount of prematch alcohol.

So have we warmed up to Bueno the Elder now?

Think he's a decent, solid defender, pretty consistent. As Tredders says, not really a quality Premier league standard, I guess because of his lack of pace and physicality.
He does seem to have good defensive ability. Probably good for the Championship.

Both he and Mosquera appeared to be having the time of their lives. They'll need that energy for next season.
Mosquera looked certain for a second yellow for a good while. In the current circumstances his performative shithousery is tedious but by the end other than Bueno was a strong candidate for motm imo.

He's got a bit more fight about him these days, he used to get easily bullied as well being made to pay for his coastal erosion pace.

Might be alright next season.

He still gets bullied any time an opponent over 5"5 gets between him and the ball and he's still incapable of defending large spaces, especially behind him. He basically has a keeper right behind him, 2 defenders within touching distance either side and a deep midfield in front so let's not lavish too much praise on him, he's barely being asked to defend these days.

Next season we'll need him to be a hell of a lot braver and ask him to defend so much higher. The jury is out on whether he's capable of playing that way.

He has been better recently though and that was a good tackle yesterday.
