General Wolves News

I listened to the podcast bit on Wolves where he talks about Neto and it's clear he does have some knowledge. Seems like Jorge is marketing Neto early doors.

Wouldn't be surprised if he goes in the summer.

Who is Duncan Castles, what are his sources, and why does he think Fosun are going to sell of the assets this summer to “raise funds”?
My guess is he's going off the headline loss in the accounts.

Who are the 'star trio' who he says we are putting up for sale?

Castles talks shite, no better than Nixon. Ignore him.

He plays on supposedly knowing the goings on behind the scenes at United, when in reality he was nothing but a pro-Jose mouthpiece when he was there.

Out of interest, what do people think we would value those 3 at?

I'd go at something like:

Neto - 50mill
Neves - 60mill
Adama - 25mill

As in, i think that if we received those sorts of bids we'd consider it.

Adama, Neto and Neves.
Thanks. The first I believe for reasons discussed previously, the latter would be disappointing but you could argue he's done his time and is due a move for the next stage of his career if the right deal is there. If Neto were to leave, especially if the other two did then I'd say Fosun and their ambitions for the club will be looked at in a different light.

Think you are £15m too high on Neves, in terms of what we'd get

Got to fund that move for Ronaldo

We went over it before but I think a net spend of less than £60m would be disgraceful.

Poor recruitment, poor football, poor results, COVID, soulless football. The good times seem yonks ago. Massive 6 months ahead.

Yeah, probably, I guess given his age and him now being a main stay in the Portugal team that might mean we get more.

In terms of what he is worth to Wolves, it's a fair bit higher than what anyone is likely to bid.

I think much depends on where players see this season.

If it's against the backdrop of Covid being shit, get it over with, Raul's injury being pivotal etc then if they are made aware of an offer they may consider it on it's merits, but otherwise will be happy to stay

If it's we are now selling first team players, we've peaked, we are now a mid table side, we've lost our identity/gone stale etc then every chance they will be more active

I have seen a number of posts on various threads stating that Pedro Neto will probably go and given where we are likely to finish, we cannot be at all surprised. We may end up having to do considerably more rebuilding than anticipated if all three go. Looking on the bright side-

1. Neves lack of pace inhibits his effectiveness as a defensive midfielder. Especially with a back 4.
2. Neto is in the place Traore was last year so he will attract a high premium.
3. Adama Traore going would solve the problem of what to do with him.

Hypothetically- Vitinha comes in for Neves for 20m. You then spend 40m on two new inside forwards and another 20m on a centre forward to compete with Raul. That still leaves 50m to upgrade the left back and centre back positions. That would then enable us to play with a back 4 and recruit the players to fit that system more effectively. It is certainly doable , but that is a lot of changes to have in a settled squad.

We are in a situation where we have problems in all three areas that we need to solve for next season so wholesale changes cannot be ruled out , especially if there is a zero net spend. We are a club in that position at the moment.

I'd be very uneasy about such a revolution.

It's pretty much tearing up everything that's been built up over the past four seasons, a huge risk to willingly embark on a seismic rebuild when we've already had a destabilising season. Doesn't sound like a great idea to me.

IMO the summer needs to be about Nuno rethinking where we're going, getting some strength into the starting XI, letting go those who've had their time or aren't good enough and bringing on the young talent in the squad

I may have missed it somewhere, but where has the idea that we will have a zero net spend this summer come from?

Not a dig, but we've seen clubs do that and fail before Spurs with the Bale money being the most notable example.
On a much lower level Wolves did it twice, once with Keane and then with Akinbiyi, one was done well the other badly

I think you could argue we've already had one pre-season where we've been a bit too clever for our own good (in terms of transfer policy and playing evolution), we don't need to follow it up with another one, surely.

Let everyone have a break, then plan for the future with clarity 🤞 there's still a lot to be positive about; we have some real talent in the squad and Nuno is an excellent manager when he gets a bit of Vitamin D now and again!

I am only basing that on the zero net spend we seem to have achieved in recent windows.
