General Wolves News

Interested in sky have calculated their 'expected points'. Most places I have seen have us on around 22 points - so matching our actual points total! And most of them have City 3/4 points clear at the top rather than Liverpool there.

So do Sheff Utd stay up then because they finish half way up the XG table? It's a load of bobbins, like some strange cult. 'We didn't deserve to lose that game, we have a better XG'.

Expected goals is better for looking at long-term performance anyway, part of the problem though is you get it all being based around one game (ie. we should have won based on this etc) or things like sky have done with small sample sizes. for alternative tables. Metrics like this are all part of a wider process where the smart clubs are getting smarter at recruitment imo to aid their scouting.

I was watching an interview on Twitter where one of the stats guys said that xG only mattered until half way through the season when actual goals (for and against) was a much more accurate measure going forward.

I think xG is the best stat for trying to figure out how well teams are or aren't playing.

Obviously the best teams overperform xG and the worst teams underperform against xG.

If Southampton have a drop off it won't be entirely unexpected given how they've overperformed.

dang our save percentage is crap, right down there with brighton

"Jonny is closer to a return. He's been working with us...not on all the situations but he's travelling to have an opinion on the surgery and after that, a couple of weeks more he'll be ready to go."

Everton and Spurs are odd ones too, both seem to be hugely overperforming. in Everton's case probably done well to get results like they did against us without key players whereas Spurs have Kane and Son to thank

29th highest in terms of revenue income in the europe according to Deloitte. That's not bad when you consider the size of our ground

I can't wait to have Jonny back, such a big player for us.

I would imagine a chunk of our revenue (outside the actual football bit) comes from shirt sales and the like. Mexico, Portugal, Brazil, China all have a decent Wolves fanbase. It's now a brand, not just a football club. Fosun are big on selling the brand. We're even breaking into the USA!

Shirt sales money goes to the shirt manufacturer mostly

I bet the mark up on shirts is huge. Shirts that sell for 50+quid cost a tenner max. They will buy in big quantities to get the best discount.

Depends on the contract signed. Adidas for example generally will pay the club a large amount up front and then proceed to keep the majority of the sales profits.
The rumour we are ripping up the deal is so we can move to a contract where we benefit from each sale a lot more

Didn't know there was a rumour to be honest, but any business would want to maximise sales of their brand, so it's no surprise they would get rid of a contract if it tied them to someone else's profit.

It's why kit manufacturers sponsor football teams, it's the licence to use the clubs branding on their products. Clubs get money from the sale of the "licence" rather than per shirt

If true, this deal will mean less money upfront from the supplier but a higher % of sales. So should earn the club more
