General Wolves News

Honestly at this point I just hope he can recover enough to lead a normal life, wouldn’t surprise me if he never plays again.

A fractured skull encompasses a huge range of possibilities - from a hairline crack all the way up to large scale damage, with commensurate risks on an ongoing basis.

Until we know more details its just speculation.

Jeez. Feel for him. For a family that let us into so much of their life via social media, I do hope when the time is right we can all follow a speedy journey to recovery.

Yeah same here, scary have to take some comfort in the Goodman one to be honest only have vague memories as was a kid but didn't he actually come back to playing relatively quickly?

I'm not really even bothered about the playing part just mean that 'fractured skull' can be slightly less serious than it sounds.

Must be horrible for Raul's family, his partner I'm sure has friends etc over here but being so far away from her family etc and his family I'm guessing stuck in Mexico feeling helpless.

Praying for a speedy recover......Our Number 9.
I was at the game when Don broke his skull (Huddersfield I think?), was horrible.

Yeah and me was in the family enclosure, remember then they took him down the tunnel but then after a few minutes they actually rushed him on a stretcher along the side of the pitch past us (to the gates by the North bank) presumably to get him straight into an ambulance.

Always remember that think that's when it kicked in it was so serious.

But as I say Goodman went on to play again for us relatively quickly (not sure how long it was as I'm sure the game was late in the season, but I remember feeling it seemed quick). Not really even bothered about the playing part at this stage just using that as a bit of hope to hold on to that he'll make a full recovery....the only thing that matters.

Well I can shed some light on the speculation.

Purely from the still the impact point looks to be his temporal bone. Now they’ve said he’s fractured it and they’ve surgically repaired it (metal plates). Normally in low energy injuries like this (relative to falling from a building or being hit by a train) then people can expect to a full recovery to day to day life (football isn’t normal life), as long as there isn’t any underlying brain injury or bleed.

Now the fact that he is conscious so soon after surgery suggests there is no bleed (Subdural haematoma etc.) and as a guess no brain injury (other than concussion, but this is independent of the fracture).

Bones heal really well and hopefully he makes a full recovery. Whether he will personally want to play football again is entirely down to him (if there’s no other complications). With a young family you wouldn’t blame him packing it in.

Sat in the North Bank watching that. Went for the header and then actualy got up and staggered around like he was drunk before his legs gave in.

The noise of the clash of heads last night reminded me of the poor bloke that fractured his skull when jumping for a ball with Elokobi

I remember the Hudds fans cheering ironically as he tumbled back down, that wasn't very nice (in fairness they probably had no idea how badly injured he was)

Goodman was always really good in the air, but i actually think he became better in the air after he fractured his skull, remarkably.

That's very positive if it is the case. Ultimately I think it would probably take professionals telling him/recommending for him to pack it in, he seems to be a pretty tough bloke who lives and breathes the game.

The Newcastle goal was on him, that’s about it.

We’ve barely conceded any goals excluding WHU where he did well to keep the score down. The last three games he hasn’t made a “non penalty” save, and couldn’t do anything about any of the goals.

We don’t give up many chances apart from long shots, where the xG will be low. So saving them won’t stat pad him.

It's a very small sample - only conceded 11 from 10 games and one of those was a keeper error. You need a full season to draw anything from that type of data and even then it excludes all the other elements expected - organisation, distribution, positioning, cross collection etc

The data he has made his graph from is here:

The squad advanced goalkeeping stats has the best performing defences as having the weakest keepers which tells me the data model is flawed. Statbomb tend not to get things wrong often but this model looks bobbins to me.

We have let the most numbers of crosses come into the box with 113 which is pretty poor. I'd be working on stopping the cross!
