General Wolves News

The 00 Blues game was the one where there was trouble a few miles away from the ground before kick off where a Wolves fan ended up in hospital. I was in the home end and got away sharpish so missed any trouble. I don’t remember any trouble at that City game, just recall wandering aimlessly around Moss side trying to find a way out and get to the pub where we’d parked. Wasn’t that a couple of years before?
The Symons OG was Dec 97 (again, I was there)

The one that surprised me was being outside the county ground after Swindon v Oxford. They REALLY don’t like each other.

Definitely not early 90s. Didn't get moved to a Sunday at Molineux until August 1994 (that might have been TV as well). There wasn't really trouble then in the centre either as I recall, Albion fans have either been blocked off or never tried getting into our pubs?
Could have been the home game of the 94-95 season. August sounds right too. It's either that one, or the season after (only worked there 14 months)

If it was carnage then it was our own fans being dicks. Like it was in January 2007.

Wouldn't have been Albion.

I do remember being in The Moon (yes I know) in the 90s and we had Stoke at home. Loads of Stoke fans decided to chuck anything they could pick up at the pub doors. Didn’t bother us we were at the back and I don’t know if anything else happened elsewhere, I just remember it being mildly interesting for a minute or two.

Stoke and Bristol City are two that do like to try to have a dig in the city centre.

I remember sharing a train carriage with a load of arsehole cider heads years ago coming up for the Brizzle game. They asked about a good pub for away fans. I told them to try the Prince Albert.

The only time I remember being scared after a match was at Wigan away. We beat them in the cup with a last minute goal (1999 so think) and me and my brother walked out of the ground and turned right into a massive fight between the two sets of fans. Luckily we got out of there ok.

I’ve only been to the Hawthorns once and that was when they knocked us out of the play offs. We made a very hasty exit that evening after their fans invaded the pitch in front of us and the Wolves fans behind us started ripping up the seats!

And how was this taxi booked.

"Yeah, 4.55 please. Outside the away end. You'll recognise me, I'll be the one in a football shirt. Just me, not the other thousands of people"

The side roads out of Maine Road are/were tiny and Wilmslow/Oxford Road was gridlock every single week for a good 45-60 minutes after full time. How do I know this, I lived there for years.
One ot two waiting to be picked up here...

Not sure how that's possible - Maine Road, and particularly the away end - was behind the last row of houses so cars wouldn't have been anywhere near the agg which was on the concrete outside the turnstiles.

It could have happened on one of the other exits around the stadium closer to roads/traffic but that would require two chain wielding headcases.

The away end was a third of the stand behind the goal and the corner next to the massive Kippax stand (on the left hand side of the pic)

Can't help you. He did show me the chain a week or so later and the damage on his car. But where and when I have no idea. and he died a few years ago, so I'll not be asking him.

Yep, you're spot on with every count, due to the layout of Wolves, away fans very rarely make it into town especially now Walkabout has gone. I worked at The Moon in 2007 when Bristol City smashed it up before the game, arrived early and caught both Wolves knuckle draggers and WMP cold. First the police knew was when we rang them.

Stoke tried similar later that season before they beat us 4-2. I rounded the corner at the top of Lichfield Street on my way in and there's 200 Stoke outside with my manager saying we're closed not wanting a repeat of the former. Was tempted to just turn around and go home!

How do you tell the difference between a smashed up & non smashed up Moon Under Water?

Most scared I've been following Wolves (although I was 13) was Bristol City away in 89. Top of the table clash and Mutch scored the only goal in the 90th minute. We were in the stand separated by stewards and we started getting pelted with fireworks. (It was November) Most of us were fine but guy in his 20s with his dad suddenly grabbed his face then just dropped. No idea what happened but the look on his old man's face hasn't left me.

I was 16 at the time sat with my dad and uncle in the city stand who jumped up when mutch scored. An old guy whacked him on the head with his walking stick shouting ‘Siddown!’ That was the only violence I saw but was pretty harmless!

From Facebook...

"Apparently, a big announcement is coming out of Molineux on Monday morning. Should imagine nothing to do with transfers, so maybe something to do with ground redevelopment. Only thing I can think of."

Jeff is going
Fosun had enough
Merging us with Grasshoppers
Vinny has lost his calculator so no price rise next season
New Neves contract
Or nothing at all and it's like that time people got excited when Adidas spent days dropping hints of something new using our colours...convincing folk they were doing something huge for us but turned out it was something to do with Beyoncé
