General Wolves News

Yeah. Interesting what he says about covering multiple positions across the back 5 though. Him and Semedo are our best wing backs really, so it makes sense. You just want to see RAN continue developing

Marçal can do one in the summer, if Jonny is back he doesn't even get on a 9 man bench, with Boly and Mosquera still missing too.

No team needs 3 LBs. He will be off im sure, might not see him play for again tbf

He was only bought as cover for Jonny the first time wasn't he, then he got himself crocked.

Hes not great but he is what he is, one WWF move in the box that Berra himself would have been proud of aside he's solid enough when fit. I could probably cross a ball better than him though, and I was shit

Didn't read anything in that to say he's considered number one option personally, I'd hope they stick with Ait-Nouri otherwise Jonny is only likely to further reduce an already meagre goal threat.

Premier league only-
Jonny- 75 games 3 goals , 3 assists RAN 32 games 1 goal ,3 assists. Pretty low bar. Their stats look comparable at both ends of the pitch. Jonny has 15 clean sheets in 75 and RAN 6 in 32. Big chances created 3 for Jonny , 4 for RAN.I would struggle between them

Semedo has 1 goal and 2 assists in 53 games, 13 clean sheets and a better tackles won and duels won percentage than both of them. All have a cross accuracy around 20%

Matt Doherty has 8 goals , 11 assists and 22 clean sheets in 98 premier games for us and spurs. Cross pertcentage similar, better defensive stats such as tackles won , recoveries, fewer errors leading to goals and yet we unanimously agree Doc was a lousy defender. Stats can be misleading.

Yeah, RAN is a cracking talent - I like him a lot - but his productivity going forward does get over-egged on here at times. He's can deliver a nice cross and he sometimes goes on those mazy runs forward that people tend to remember, but given a choice of who's starting out of him, Marcal or Jonny, I'm picking Jonny every day of the week. Class player and I think people have forgot just how good he is because of how long he's been out.

Would be a massive boost to have him back in the matchday squad. Oh, and please don't misinterpret this as me wanting RAN out of the starting 11 - I still want to see him feature lots because he's quality too.

He speaks about how he likes how he cuts in because he's right footed. We know he asks his wing backs to not cross the ball so therefore makes sense he'll prefer him

for my money, Johnny is a really really good footballer. My feeling is we have missed him whilst he has been injured.
I wonder if Johnny did return as LB in a back 4, RAN is moved further up the pitch?

I didn't read any more emphasis on Jonny's natural inclination to look inside on his stronger foot than there was on RAN fondness for getting forward, he even gave Marcal exactly the same page space about his 'control'. I think it was just a quite summary of each candidates strengths rather than showing preference for any one over another.

It's not like you'd lose massive productivity by dropping RAN but he's a much more natural wingback than Jonny, offering much better balance by playing on his natural side, and judging by some of his performances against big guns this season you're not even sacrificing much robustness to include that anymore.

Jonny is a great fullback but I think he'll always be hampered as a wingback if he's used predominantly on the left, it kills pretty much any chance of an overlap. Given Wolves already struggle to look expansive and threatening for the most part I just don't see how blunting one of the few relatively sharp edges helps that, regardless of how good the player coming in is at other aspects of the game.

Also seen a few good set pieces from RAN this season, take him out and you lose that, doubly so when there's not really any other viable candidate for a left footed delivery.

Ah, the old 'play Lee Naylor on the left wing' gambit.

No ta.

not saying it is what I'd do, but wondering how we continue to help RAN progress and develop.

In which case that wouldn't help him develop at all as we'd be putting him miles out of position for no reason.

It's a completely different skillset, he isn't a winger and never will be.

If we end up in mid table for the last 5 or so games of the season I wouldn't mind trying him there as he's got all the skills to succeed in that position IMO.
