Sky News has been to an immigration court appeal to see how the European Convention on Human Rights is being used in legal arguments by migrants to remain in Britain, amid calls for the UK to withdraw from it.

Those figures, published by the Home Office, reveal that between April 2008 and June 2021, 21,521 foreign nationals due to be deported because of crimes they'd committed appealed, and 2,392 were successful on human rights grounds only. That's around 181 on average per year.

I think multiculturalism works fine but only when the majority of those living in that community are succeeding and well off and don’t have the same economic struggles that those who live in poorer communities do.
Outside of that you have coexistence with a degree of tolerance involved.
For example people will stay within enclaves with people who look, talk and follow the same faith as them. Do they do it because they’re racist or unwilling to “integrate”? No it’s done for comfort and a degree of perceived safety.
When life is more of a struggle it’s very easy to blame others for your situation.
Also very easy to look down you nose at people when you’re well off and tell poorer communities how they should live whilst not facing the same issues.
This isn’t new to society or unique to the uk it’s just people being people.
Problem is currently it’s hard to make ends meet for even those living on an average wage, health care is at one of its lowest ever ebbs etc
I think as a society we’ve become far less tolerant of a difference of opinion and love to pigeon hole everyone at one extreme to another. I lean slightly right in my views, for some that puts me on a par with Trump, Farage, Robinson etc
If you lean slightly left you’re put in the same category as Marx etc
I think complete social integration is a wonderful utopian thought in practical terms and reality it’s a fantasy.

Kent’s local authority is likely to raise council tax rates next year as Reform UK has struggled to find big savings under an Elon Musk-inspired cost-cutting drive.

Kent was one of 10 English councils that Nigel Farage’s rightwing populist party seized in a swath of victories at local elections in May this year. He vowed to save “a lot of money” by abolishing “wasteful” spending.

But Diane Morton, Reform’s cabinet member for adult social care on Kent county council, told the Financial Times that services in Kent were already “down to the bare bones”.

“We’ve got more demand than ever before and it’s growing,” she said, stressing she did not believe access to those services should be limited. “We just want more money.”"
 
Is this the same partner who Farage forgot had bought a house in Clacton for him, then remembered she had bought it because he would pay less tax, but it turned out she couldn't have bought it because she doesn't have any money? That partner?
