Ex-Wolf Watch

Yeah, they weren’t any mitigating circumstances for that last season under Nuno at all either…

I was thinking about that the other day though. Nuno has a much needed summer break, considering we finished 10th under Lage that season, where do we come under Nuno? It’s at least 8th I think.

Guess we should have given him a lifetime contract then as obviously without him no other manager in the world could have prevented the inevitability of relegation
As long as Rui P got one as well, yes...

We upgraded Nuno to Lage, Coady to Santi, Jota to Podence, Raul to Tolu, Jonny to Hugo, Moutinho to Andre, Neves to ?, Boly to Kilman to Krejci, etc etc.

It’s not so much managed to decline as active enshittication. Lage truthers deserve to be condemned to watching Stafford Rangers ad infinitum

Football in Covid in general was boring after the initial excitement of finishing the 2019/20 season. We really were and Nuno killed our chance of any glory with his ridiculous selection against Southampton in the cup. If I remember correctly every game was live and normally on its own island, so got over scrutinised, often by 12 year olds whose voices were amplified by social media.

If it were a normal season I'd have said questions should be asked, but it wasn't. We all know now, the sacking - remember the initial days of mutual consent? was driven purely by someone's ego and it wasn't Nuno’s and probably came to a head irrespective of what happened on the pitch.

I didn't say there weren't any.

The accusation was that we were boring, and we were. You can still love Nuno and his legacy and also admit some criticism and truth into the discussion

My problem with those first three games is that they weren’t actually an indication of what was to come performance wise.

We created quite a lot and didn’t finish them, and weren’t bad defensively either.

But after that basically we beat Watford and played well, got done by Brentford and Lage shit himself and reverted to pretty much what we saw for the rest of his time. Slow, cautious football reliant on the defensive organisation left from the previous manager.

We are talking about a season 6 years ago when we first tried to move away from 3 centre halves. 5 managers plus caretakers later we still haven't managed it apart from a few months under Lopetegui with numerous different players and every manager wanting to. It is such a bizarre situation.
