I don't see why all the calls for a replacement. The lad is in great form, scoring goals and puts a real shift in working for the team. If a replacement comes up for anyone in our price range, be it Dicko, Sako, Batth anyone you go for it. The constant singling out of Edwards seems very odd? The work he puts in off the ball dragging defenders around the pitch with his movement, creates so much time and space for Dicko, Sako and VLP to grab the glory...

He's a decent player now he is being utilised behind the striker. When previous managers played him in a 4-4-2 he was dreadful.

I think it would cost a lot to upgrade, but at some point we should be looking to upgrade with a footballing number 10.

I think him a dreadful footballer, an individual within a team sport. A player who puts his own performance above all others which then restricts other players effectiveness. As seen by various strikers finding life nigh on impossible within a Wolves shirt. I don't believe Wolves can have a cohesive intelligent forward thinking game plan without adding a players player to the pivotal number ten role.

He's kind of two players in one when we use him, like an all rounder he plays as a second striker and a third central midfielder at the same time and that is his main strength. His movement is excellent and obviously work rate second to none. What he can't do is link the play, create chances or shoot from distance but when he's on form like now and scoring then he more than makes up for it. Imagine if you mixed Jacobs technique with the movement, work rate and energy of Edwards - what a player!

We are a far worse team without him in. He's never going to beat 3 or 4 men or score 20 goals a season. But he knows his role and limitations, has that knack of being in the right place. His work rate and movement create make life so much easier for out more gifted attacking players.

Reminds me a bit of David Platt, not a great footballer but if used correctly very effective.

There is only one role he can fill within the side, we are currently playing the formation that suits him.. he's never a central midfielder or winger, but playing in that hole behind the striker his energy and movement are very effective for us.

Effective for himself or those around him.
I fail to see him open up our opponents with a through ball, he hardly links with Dicko, he fails to open up the space down the flanks for our wide players. He struggles to give a forward ball option to McDonald and Price. He lacks the discipline when asked to play wider to hold positions in front of a full back, as seen against Blackpool and Fulham.
He presses the ball as an individual rather than as part of a team collective.
On the plus side he has a good habit of getting on the end of things occasionally.

No Dave No Disco.

He does need at the very least some quality competition for that No. 10 role though. He has been in good form the last couple of games but has been very inconsistent over the course of the season IMO.

Look at the impact Jelle Vossen has had at Boro to see what a proper footballing no. 10 can do for a side at this level.

He was pretty poor for an hour on Saturday and was better moved to an old fashioned inside left position where he could drift away from the full back and he had two forwards in front of him who could occupy the two centre backs. O'Hara was never going to track his runs off the ball and that gave him acres of space to run into.

In the first half his job was to press O'Hara when he had the ball and too many times he lost concentration and forgot until it was too late. When he did press O'Hara and consequently any of the defenders he was great. His movement off the ball is a bit of a myth for me, it is neither effective or for the team but it does make the opposition think which has its merits on its own. I thought he should have been taken off, but then he pops up and scores. Can't take that away from the lad and it clearly meant so much to him.

The Edwards thing for me comes down to what he's there to do.

Is he a second striker, expected to score 15 and create 15 a season? If so, he's not the answer.
Is he a 'number 10' whose role is to link play, create space and chances and score 10 a season? If so, he might score 10 but doesn't do the rest.
If we just want someone who scores 10 a season and closes down well, then he probably is the answer, but that's not what I would be looking for, personally.

Dave edwards is fantastic for the championship. It's all about teamwork, commitment, workrate... Dave has all these in abundance. However, if we manage to make it back to the premier league his position would be the first I'd be looking to fill with a classy marquee No. 10 signing who will slot right into the hole. At the moment though.... Super Dave!

For me I would sooner have a player who scores between 5 and ten, but helps the other players in the front four positions to score 5 or 10 goals more themselves. Plus be a player who helps Wolves put some control over proceedings in the opponents half with the ability to play a through ball and switch the point of attack.

He's in good form at the moment and fully justifying his place. However there are times when he is not on form/the team doesn't have as much of a stronghold on the game and his lack of technical ability can hurt us - look at the Forest game for example. A couple of occasions he had a chance to be in on goal but his touch was lacking and the opportunity was gone. He never has and never will be a player who creates chances for others - and most number 10s are the creative fulcrum of a team who play this system.

It's no different to any other player in any other position - he needs to keep producing the goods and if we have an opportunity to upgrade then we have to take it, there is no room for sentiment here and no sense in standing still.

Dave is not an individual he is a team player

He creates a lot of space for others to exploit, covers in midfield and pulls defences to allow Dicko the space.

He is actually critical to the way we play

Only one goal behind Sako too.......

No-one cares about cup goals really.

He has four in the league which given the position he plays and the number of games he has started is not a very good return.

We would never agree, Edwards exasperates me, I find he neglects team shape and team responsibilities in search of his own personal glory. When the team requires a helping hand in central midfield to build the play quite often Dave has gone missing, often to early forward off the ball runs when the requirement is showing short.

given that he's effectively a second striker, and doesn't create opportunities for others, its diabolical.
