Cost of Living

Unless you are Lewis Hamilton searching for hundredths of a second it does pretty much bugger all. It certainly won't dramatically increase consumption at all.

Well exactly. I’d rather fill it up so I have to do it less often which is inconvenient and time consuming.

Could do with shedding 20kg of body weight which might improve my MPG though!
 
Just had a customer complain about paying $140 to fill the tank on his diesel truck, and that's before the latest increase. I think it holds around 140 litres, but I would be surprised if it gets more than 4 miles to the litre.
On the other hand my car cost around $35 to completely fill.

I probably don't do the mileage that many of you may do. I cycle to work on the days I go in. I drive to gigs, holiday, and bowling in the summer. I take and collect mrs jelly from work owing to the pandemic.

I drive over to wolves to visit my folks, and go to games.

That's pretty much it. My car is 11 years old and is approaching 43000 miles on the clock. I average about 3000 miles a year (less the last 2 obvs).

I top up frequently in small amounts tbh. It doesn't take that long to get petrol, surely? Only time I fill the tank is when going on holiday.

Also consider that fuel is going up day on day, so buying as much as you can at a cheaper price, is surely more logical than buying half as much at one price, and then another half at more. Then factor in the mileage done to get to and from the garage and the time taken, it's a flawed logic?

Knowing where to buy helps. The garage on Pendeford Avenue is 157p a litre for diesel. All the garages on the Stafford Road are 161p a litre. I would imagine its cheap at the garage by Fallings Park Fire Station, but that is a lot more out of my way so the saving would be less.

If you top up infrequently, you'd have been better off with a full tank at for example 1.40p a litre of a few weeks ago, than half at 1.40 and then half at 1.57p as it is now?
 
Always find the Sainsbury's on the ring road to be cheaper than anywhere else
 
There is a cheap one off the Stafford Road just before Four Ashes that not a lot of people know about but I don't have any reason to go that way at the moment

Well the Tesco and Sainsburys in town are by far the cheapest and they are a mile in the wrong direction from work, also far more traffic going to and from that direction. So that 1 mile journey, queuing in traffic, queuing at the pumps queuing home is an inconvenience I could do without.

I don’t do many miles as I try to cycle to work unless I’m late or it’s icy/rainy (so I’ve been mainly driving recently) so if I only have to fill up once a month and avoid that hassle then happy days. But filling up half twice is double the inconvenience for me for probably zero net gain in fuel efficiency before I even factor in time element.
 
Esso in Kiddy was 169.9p on Friday evening, paid 149.9p at Sainsbury's in Wolves before the match on Saturday
 
discussed with @Kenny on saturday. He said it had hit 170 in his suburban dream. @Parkins left foot advised the motorway service stations weren't charging that much.

sainsburys near me had them queuing up and blocking an island sunday, where it was 144. the queues were like when there was a shortage (that wasn't a shortage). saw a tanker filling the station last night when collecting mrs jelly from work, and expected the price to be adjusted, but this morning cycled past and it was still 144!
 
Its gone up 15p in 5 days at some places. Glad I got a full tank at 157p last week.
 
Was at Stevenage 168 for diesel yet Sainsbury’s a mile away 151
Electric gone up to 250 a month
 
Do you live in Buckingham Palace?
 
Christ. Put ours up from £100 to £232 the other day, but that is something else.
