Cost of Living

Again significant investment in ecologically sound public transport systems (including cycling facilities) can be a massive economy booster. Job creation, wealth creation, innovation, eco-friendly.
 
Labour to call for a ban on raising the energy price cap. Hard or disagree with that one. You would like to think that Truss/Sunak end up having to do this too but I won’t get my hopes up.

Should start seeing these appear on the roads of the UK soon. Hugely popular in France and launched in the UK earlier this year and the first orders are about to be delivered. I think in France you don't need a drivers license to whizz around in one but here you do

All very well banning a rise on the energy cap after its gone up massively. What needs doing is nationalising the energy industry completely or if you're not going to do that enforce a legitimate energy cap that keeps prices low enough for everyone to afford to heat their homes no matter their standard of living. These massive profits and huge payouts to CEOs and shareholders has to stop.
 
All stopping it now does is demonstrate to the wholesalers exactly what point is the maximum rip off point for maximum profits. They need to be taxed to death on excessive profits that have been achieved solely by the price cap increases we've already seen. Even as it was in October, £1800 or whatever it was, was profit making. The subsequent increases have been pure additional profit margin
 
Tbh although I'm a bit of a 'reformed' socialist, I was never happy about privatising the utilities and public transport, imo they are too important to leave just for profit. I get the argument that they were poorly run but that's not cos they were public, more than it was puss poor management.

I totally agree but at least banning it from going up any more is something positive compared to what we are currently facing.
 
Inflation seems to have hit my local grocer of choice all at once. My week’s shopping jumped nearly 30% since last week.

Stop being lazy and grow your own, a single person should be able to grow enough veg and salad with a generous sized window box😄
 
There is a goal to attain net-zero which ultimately means alternative sources of energy OR a reduction in the use of fossil fuels. The former isn't applicable at this moment in time and the jury is out as to whether it ever will be. Von Der Leyen suggests a cut of 15% over winter 22/23.

The profits of the global corporations that supply energy (much like any global corporation) are linked to the viability of many pension funds ie they invest in them. If you reduce consumption without corresponding price hikes then profits will fall. With many of the safe investments options being the established global corporations and their monopolies there may be a problem ahead.

I cannot see any government taking on these corporations or in fact the billionaires that profit from energy, vaccines and whatever else, therefore in times where QE and Borrowing at not so palatable I tend to think we about to see a massive transfer of wealth from the middle to the lower. Interesting times ahead comrades.
 
Terrible news for householders and the continued increase in energy prices will put many businesses to the wall.

It was reported yesterday that pubs are being asked for £10k upfront payments from energy suppliers to ensure supply. The cost of energy for public services such as schools and hospitals is going to mean astronomical costs for the government too.
 
I just don’t see how this is being allowed to happen. The companies are making record profits and we’re being bankrupted. I’m married, no kids and we both work full time. We won’t be able to pay our bills when this hits us - how is that right?

The energy generators are making massive profits.

There is a way out of this but we have utter cunts in government.
 
When I took warly retirement 18 months ago, I did my sums and it was doable, obviously I factored in inflation plus a bit. What I didn't do was factor in 300% rise in 6 months in my second biggest outgoings, plus of course more to come every 3 months. I suspect I'll be job hunting in January.
I'm lucky I suppose, I have options, there will definitely be deaths due to energy prices.
 
I hate to say it, but I expect there could be a very large jump in the suicide rate, along with vulnerable people actually starving as well. Awful times.
