Chelsea 0-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

I watched the Everton v Leicester game last night. Leicester play a high line which I like, as the gap between defence and front players is a lot narrow. Our centre backs are too deep and don't have much impact on the play.

There’s no Raul to hold it up and no Jota to break forward in combination with him. That’s why we don’t break as well as we used to. Neto carries the ball well, as can Adama but there’s no cohesion or focal point which hopefully Jose will sort out.

I don't want to pin all our hopes on him , but we really are crying out for someone who can hold the ball up and bring runners into play be it wing backs or other forwards. I want to give him a few games to settle in as well. I am hoping he will be a success and bag a few goals .

With a couple of Neto breaks yesterday, I was really thinking about how much we missed Jota. Hindsight, but oh well.

I hope we learn from this the lesson that having the entire effectiveness of your system totally reliant on one or two players is very risky. Every team is weakened without their best players, but we've pretty much come apart without Raul, and it's not as if this is our first or even second PL season either

That’s in part because our centre backs can’t cope with balls into the channel, or runners beyond them (apart from Boly), we would have to recruit differently to play that style.

we play deep because we can then compact space and teams find it incredibly difficult to get behind us centrally, and our centre backs (and centre mids) fit that style.

Jota when he was playing well but he wasn’t consistent. Neto reminds me so much of Jota, it’s all there but he can’t always do it. He’s prone to running in to dead ends, like Jota but can just as easily disappear past a defender with ease, like Jota. Neto did both against Chelsea.

There was a choice to be made when it became obvious Liverpool wanted Jota and I think Jota leaving was good for Neto’s development and Neto is an exciting talent who can’t be sitting on the bench. Jota‘s transfer was a good deal for us, a good deal for Liverpool and a good deal for Neto.

Now Jota plays for Liverpool I don’t really care what he could do for Wolves, it’s not relevant.

to be fair, Neto likes to have someone to link with, he can’t do it all on his own, and he, pod and Traore were miles apart yesterday.

he clearly got really frustrated, and could have got a second yellow for booting the ball away.

I do think he’s better than Jota though, fabulous footballer

This is the bit that is baffling me. We can see it, Neto can see it but Nuno for some reason isn't changing it.

It’s incredibly frustrating. A couple of times yesterday Traore noticeably ran towards the right hand touchline when Neto was running down the left even though there were 5 Chelsea players at least between them and no other Wolves players anywhere to be seen.

That’s where a decent hold up centre forward and a proper attacking midfielder come in. Difficult to do with 3 at the back

nine of our last 11 wins have been 1 0. That’s not changing this season I think, so it’s important that we are bloody mean defensively. No sloppy goals and we can get points.

That's my view too, Neto is better but him and Jota as a pair would've been an interesting watch this season. That said, Jota may not have upped his game without the move

Jota will always be the more effective player I think but Neto is a bloody joy to watch, both similar in fact in a 'create something out of nothing' way too.

I think Neto has more about him than Jota - I think he’ll get to a point where he scores as many, but creates far more.

I absolutely and whole heartedly agree

if we are to transition it should be from the back to give us the option to switch from a two to a three

I think the main issue is we have zero hold up play whoever is attacking it either ends in a shot or the ball is coming back at us 10 seconds later. I'm adamant the passage of play that goes Boly - Coady- Saiss - Coady - Boly - Semedo is our back line having a breather :)
I honestly believe in weeks to come Willian will transfer us back to something like we were before.
This. I've been saying the same too.

Pod did not look like a happy bunny when he got the hook. I can see him being unhappy if he doesn't get regular starts, bit like Cutrone in his first spell

Nuno should make him watch the game and then he'd realise he was lucky to stay on as long as he did.

As opposed to Traore who's contribution to the whole 90 minutes was.....?
Every player who's substituted should look pissed off unless they are dead on their feet

Not disagreeing Traore was as awful. As I said earlier in thread 4.5/10 would be charitable.
