I think Stearman makes the right choice personally, he dives in and Pilkington can just knock the ball in anywhere behind him for the block that's running down the outside, no point committing and taking himself out the game unless he's relatively confident of getting the ball. Batth makes that mistake of coming to confront the man with the ball when he's got no chance of getting to him and so the easy pass down the outside takes him out the game, if he'd dropped off with the rest of his defence then he'd be covering where Iorfa tucked into so Dom could've stayed wide to stop Pilkington.
