Boxing thread

Sad, sad death in South Africa in the week. Buthelezi knocked his opponent down but he made the count. On resumption, Buthelezi started boxing an imaginary fighter in the corner. Died from a bleed on the brain.

Before the anti boxing lobby start [and I know it’s dangerous], five have already died this week at the TT. I think that’s about normal:average and doesn’t count Joe Public on Mad Monday

I wouldn't ban boxing, however saying something questionable shouldn't be banned because something else questionable isn't is a weak argument. They need to be judged on their own merits imo

The TT only gets a licence because it falls under the auspices of the Manx government. No way would it exist elsewhere. For instance bike racing has been banned on Mount Panorama where they run Bathurst in Oz for years now as too dangerous.

However, you have to think that the people who race in the TT or decide its a good idea to climb mountains like K2 and Anapurna where the mortality rates are frightening, go into their test with their eyes open and it is a risk that they want to take. Banning it would be counter productive. The whole of the thrill of the TT for the rider and also spectator is that the risk is so huge and the margin for error so small. Emasculate the circuit and the event would be a completely different experience for the riders and they wouldn't get the thrill.

Absolutely, I was watching a question and answer session before the TT with most of the top riders, one question was 'would you be in favour of seeing the whole circuit having more and bigger run off areas' all said no, the whole concept of the event would change and probably kill it off. All the riders know the risks but wish to take them, only a handful are pro, in fact it costs the majority a fortune to compete. This year has been particularly bad for deaths, it's tragic but it will go on for the foreseeable. The organisers work hard to try and make it safe as possible but inevitably there will be more incidents.
Don't think you can compare it to boxing, personally don't want to see either banned but the anti boxing brigade will point out that the whole purpose of the sport is to knock someone out which will inevitably cause injury.

TBF Bryan is pretty terrible. I've unfortunately seen some of his fights he's an even worse Heavyweight 'World' Champion than Charles Martin was.

Good for Dubois but it was expected
Agreed. Bryan is rubbish. Dubois called out both Whyte and Parker and he would lose to both.

You can only beat what’s in front of you. FWIW I think Dubois easily beats Whyte, both are punchers but Dubois is a better puncher.

Undercard tonight is shocking, I used to slag hearn off for the shit he pulled but this is another level. Conmen.

This is put together by Hearn.

It's on sky box office but it's still a matchroom show.

Undercard isn't bad really. You've had Ben Whittaker fighting, Badou Jack's fight was good, now you've got Callum Smith and then Hrgovic vs Zhang.

I've seen much worse.

Whittaker doesn't interest me until he fights someone who's going to actually fight back properly. Callum smith fought a European level lad who wasn't even ranked in the top 10 till he mysteriously appeared 2 weeks ago. Zhang is pants.

Jack vs Popeye was competitive because jack is shot to pieces.

There isn't a single 50/50 fight on the whole card and that includes the main event.

Apart from the rogue judge they gave Usyk a couple more rounds that I gave tied. If he can be bothered Fury will take him apart, he's a Cruiserweight with a heart

Enjoyed the fight but Usyk too fast and a better boxer. Thought AJ had the right plan just not quite the heart too execute it.

Fury takes Usyk apart.

I had it wide for Usyk, 117-111. Joshua mostly landing on gloves or being partially blocked while Usyk's work was cleaner. Did like AJ's work to the body but just didn't do enough of it.

Agree that Wilder probably beats them both, as good as Usyk is; he's there to be hit. Wilder only needs to partially land and it's over.

I know they'll be a market, but Fury vs Joshua now is just a money making exercise, from a purely boxing perspective its very meh, I don't need to see the fight to know who wins

Connor Benn gets popped using a banned substance that is usually used towards the end of steroid cycle by Vada but Hearn is trying to get the fight on. Boxing is absolutely rotten to the core.

It's a ridiculous fight in the first place. A macabre fascination of middle aged men in seeing the sons fight despite being weights apart. Given that today's news doesn't shock

Agreed. It was never going to be competitive, Eubank would have knocked him out at a canter.

I'm of the view that most of the top fighters are juicing, only the stupid ones get caught. The cheats are always miles ahead of the testing agencies. So me neither.
