Bellend commentators

I wonder if I'm overreacting to this, but here goes:

Joe Cole (I think - it was audio only) on a BT Sport package about Pele saying, "I bet he a Maradona have started the football match up in heaven".

I understand that some people believe this kind of thing, but what purpose does it serve to have a BT Sport pundit perpetuating beliefs like this as undisputed fact? How is that educating or informing an audience? This wasn't a line by a grieving relative, it was a deliberate VO on a package about someone's death to an audience which is bound to include a high proportion of young viewers.

You make it sound like he was preaching for about an hour uninterrupted rather than a single throwaway line.

Is this how people feel when I bring up race

I didn't make it sound like that at all - I said what it was. I agree it was a throwaway line.

A throwaway line that didn't need to make the edit.

I have trouble taking anything Joe Cole says on football seriously, so I doubt anyone is taking his opinions on theology with anything other than a pinch of salt.

He didn't express it ias an opinion. That's my problem with it.

If Joe Cole said the sky was blue I'd still look up to check.

There’s way more harmful spiritual/religious ideas to push on an audience than the existence of Heaven tbf. IMO, anyway.

I don't believe in God or any of that stuff but I find it a nice fantasy to imagine Pele and Diego meeting in the sky and playing some head tennis together. I know that isn't what has happened but seems a nice and respectful way of marking their passing to imagine it

Just when you'd got over the trauma of putting up with them at the world cup.

Normally this thread denigrates the true dreadfulness of many football commentators. However tonight the following exchange occurred during Oxford v Arsenal.

Oxfords most famous fan is probably Timmy Mallet, one time star of pop and children’s tv and general all round twat. Sam Matterface wanted to use this info to get down with the kids and show what an old fart his co comms was. Lee Dixon was having none of it

SM “so Lee, surely you remember Mallets mallet don’t you?”

LD “I wish I had a mallet right about now “

Drier than Ghandhi’s sandals.
