Arsenal 1-2 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Really good performance. Was sceptical about continuing with 4 at the back and with Coady in a back 4, but felt great performance from him , especially getting touch on that cross as Auba was about to side foot in.

would stick with the back 4 and 4 attacking players against Liverpool next game, especially with Liverpool’s injury’s.

great to see moutinho put in his best performance in some time. Front 4 all looked good, and Podence finish is naughty.

fingers crossed Raul injury isn’t too severe - however people saying it’s a red card, it’s just a collision in the air. Nothing more.

o. And I was adamant adama dived, until after the game seeing the replays. Definite penalty. Who’s our 2nd choice taker ?

Harrowing photo on Twitter of Raul with an oxygen mask on and covered in blood. Won't post it here but its out there.

Edit:- don't know if its what Tredman shared.

Can’t remember that last time I’ve felt so sick after an injury to one of our own. Really hope he’s ok.

No idea who takes it tbh. Neves was still on the bench. Maybe Neto or Joao id guess.

Not the same one, but looking at that, I'd be suprised if he's not got a smashed eye socket

Firstly hope Raul recovers quickly, must be a nightmare for his young family. Unfortunately missed the game and just watched MOTD highlights so can't say if there was any culpability on Luiz's part.

Great win to take us into the top six, so pleased to see that back four yield 4 points in two games, and kudos to Nuno and the players for moving out of tried and tested areas and having early success with it.

Excited to see Silva probably get a run of games, but not in the manner anyone would have wanted

It shows Luiz for what he is
I see it as a clear professional foul that would be an automatic red card. Sadly, Oliver missed it, as did Marriner on VAR, so unfortunately there is no way in football for it to be considered further. However, the FA and FIFA need to look into the matter of head injuries very seriously before a player (other than a retired one) develops a serious and severe disability, even early dementia.

It should have been looked at when Ryan Mason had 14 steel rods and 42 staples in his head before being forced to retire what, four years ago?

Concussion tests in football were probably written by the same idiot who wrote the EFL fit and proper persons test.

The more I look at that 2nd goal the better it gets such quick feet from Podence and such a calm finish.

When you look at this image, and i know it's a still, and they can be interpreted in certain ways, but the ball has gone and not only does he have his hand in his mouth his contact is late or early. If the same happens in a tackle the player is punished, and with this much force, punished severely.

I'm amazed that no journalist has even considered it to be anything more than a "clash of heads" there is a discussion there surely!?

There's definitely a discussion, however there are a couple of caveats. Firstly the Twitter post you've quoted said the ball had gone, it had, but was a split second, Raul is still in the air at the point of contact. Secondly I can't remember ever seeing anyone sent off in that kind of situation, ie in competitive action without leading with the elbow. If he hits him after the ball has gone knee high with his foot at that force it would have been a red, so there is an inconsistency there, but realistically it's not going to be given as a red unless you are looking for ground breaking precdent

I've seen the photo with the mask and blood, which isn't that bad - he's just being given oxygen and has some blood on his head above that. But this picture shows him just lying there on his side straight after hitting the ground. There's no blood present and his face looks relatively unscathed, so hopefully it was just a minor cut that opened up whilst being treated.

It sounded bloody awful . Without a crowd it sounded like a cricked bat ! Awful noise that sent shudders down my spine when I realised what it was. I hope Raul has a speedy recovery. It could have been so much worse. As to whether its a red or not I havent seen a replay. Luiz is a well known shithouse but surely that's no more than an unfortunate accident.

On to the game. I was so disappointed with Arsenal for starters. How they took us apart after lockdown to how they were here was akin to us playing west ham after lockdown and then our shambles a couple of months later. Something is not right there and Aubameyang looks in awful shape. He should have scored with the header. Rui was also lucky not to be punished for his mini meltdown moment. Donk should have scored once and should have done better with their goal. Last 15 we hung on without looking desperate but once again 3-5-2 with Traore in a two looked all at sea. Marriner on VAR bottled the Traore penalty. Thats about it for negatives for me.

Silva played really well. Nice touches and better strength on the ball. Traore and Neto scared the living shit out of the whole defence and Podence in that form reminds me more of Hazard every week!. Coady showed he can play in a four without issue. Most of you wont remember that it was 1979 since we last won at Arsenal.

Lets wish a speedy recovery to Raul-fingers very much crossed.

FFS guys. What is he supposed to do? Not challenge for a winable header from an corner? It was an unfortunate accident, nothing more.
He can challenge, of course he can, but not in a dangerous and reckless way.

Even if he wins the ball and then follows through leaving Raul in hospital it's still dangerous play.

It's always going to look worse when slowed down or on still shots, he's trying to win the header and it's just an accident you can't blame Luiz for that.

My alternative highlight for tonight was the Sky cameras picking up Rob Holding scream “he’s built like a brick shithouse, hows he gone down like that?” when he was booked for pulling Adama down 😂

I like watching with no crowd noise pick up some funny stuff.

Just before this one you could clearly pick up Coady screaming something like 'fucking brilliant mate' after Marcal made a challenge.

Kind of a weird reminder that these superstars are actually playing the game you played over the park/school fields etc.

Really good performance 2-1 flattered Arsenal could have just as easily been 3 or 4-0 to be honest.

Nuno talks about finding solutions and the switch to a 4 at the back is certainly one of them to be used at certain times/games. Could make us become less predictable which was probably the only criticism you could put to Nuno's Wolves team of the past 3 years.

Neto and Podence both had great games, the defence whilst obviously not as brick wall like as with a 3 was still pretty steady with Marcal having a really good game and Moutinho looked back to his best. Silva was thrown in at the deep end in horrible circumstances but felt the kid led the line pretty well.

Having said all that was tough to get into watching after what happened to Raul (to be honest my initial reaction was to switch off but turned back on more for the hope of updates/news).

Praying Raul's ok and we hear some more news soon, at this point not sure its even right debating how long he'll be out, how it'll effect the team etc. Personally don't really care about that side just hoping the guy thats given us so much joy is ok as a human being.

It's not JUST the image though is it? We have the footage too! Luiz doesn't win the ball and smashes his head into another player. He didn't mean to do it, but his actions are out of control and therefore he's unable to stop himself.

If you are driving a car in a manner where you are unable to stop yourself from hitting into a tree, you've lost control haven't you.

Raul is the tree.

Stills and close ups of a man, a father at that lying on the ground in real trouble......think I'll leave this thread for a while.

What kind of sicko takes those photos and do they really need posting?
