it won't happen, because the individual country FAs would be financially fucked and UEFA competitions would collapse on the spot, but I would love the Italians, ourselves, the Germans and the Spanish to refuse leave for the teams to play during the league season and authorise the clubs not to release players for other countries.

So where will this leave leagues in Europe. It is not just the tournament, but players will be needed at least two weeks before it starts, and then afterwards, they will undoubtedly have two weeks off. So players involved in the 2022 world cup could be unavailable for their clubs for up to 10 weeks. I can see a few problems with this.

It won't be like the ACN - if this farcical idea goes ahead, the whole domestic programme will be suspended. Except in Scotland of course.. Suspending the Scottish football programme because it clashes with a world cup would be like sticking a plaster to your finger to cure a broken toe.

All national associations are affiliated to F.I.F.A, and would not be able to refuse to release players. Now Qatar has been chosen, F.I.F.A., will have to sort out the mess they created.
