    Coronavirus

The GFC is just a blip compared to the tsunami of debt and eventual defaults that is coming. Simply the debt to GDP ratio (a crude but simplistic reference point) is just not sustainable for much longer.

    Coronavirus

Exactly ! The house of cards will eventually collapse . . . not sure when, but I'd expect sometime between 2025-2030. The impact will be pretty well across all the world (and I don't think it is doomsday scare-mongering), so they'd be no way to escape it.

    Coronavirus

The inflation genie is one that's going to raise it's ugly head in the not-to-distant future. The amount of debt racked up by Govts (along with personal debt) across the globe is eye-wateringly staggering and coupled with low/zero interest rates will eventually lead to rapid inflation - you'd...

Pretty good summary/analysis of the insane zero COVID policy being pursed by some countries, including Australia. https://dossier.substack.com/p/zero-covid-catastrophe-participating

    Coronavirus

100% spot on . . . but it's life in Oz . . . the COVID obsession is literally destroying the country as it's increasingly becoming 7 separate entities (states). The impact on the economy, businesses, those employed in the private sector, mental health etc is far outstripping the health issues...

    Coronavirus

Melbourne/Victoria to be into its 5th lockdown tonight - 18 cases no-one in hospital. Sydney been in lockdown for 4 weeks, with at least another 2 weeks to go - likely to be at least another 4. Total cases around 600, 50 odd in hospital. 10 million and the 2 largest cities in Oz all locked up.

    Coronavirus

Compared to most of the world, the fatal impact of COVID in Australia has been slight - just over 900 deaths and none this year. Albeit, the harsh lockdown restrictions in Melbourne/Victoria (5 months and counting in the last 15 months) have resulted in huge psychological and economic damage to...

    Just like Greece in 2004.

Fuck me . . . I've just read the story re Matt Hancock caught with his pants down and the hypocrisy it exposes . . . https://www.spiked-online.com/2021/06/25/the-hypocrisy-of-matt-cockblock/

    Euro 2020

Totally agree mate ! He was the only recent decent ref we've had in England for many a year. The current crop are an embarrassment to the previously excellent tradition of good British refs.

    Euro 2020

To be honest, IMO, England have really only been a really top international team from 1966 to 1970. 1966 speaks for itself. A 3rd place in the 1968 Euros and arguably their best team was in 1970, but that quarter final against the Germans was just plain unlucky (Bonetti’s howler, Seeler’s freak...

    Euro 2020

Nice one - although the 66 team did include the world’s best goalkeeper (Banks), the world’s best defender (Moore) and the world’s best attacking midfielder (Charlton).

    Euro 2020

The only way a 24 team tournament could ”work” is to adopt the format used in Spain’82. 6 groups of 4, top 2 go through. 4 groups of 3, top goes through to the semis. Now I agree you lose out on the knockout rounds of 16 and quarters but in effect the 2nd round group games are cut-throat. Also...

    Euro 2020

There are tools and then there are tools . . . Southgate FFS ! ! ! I can't believe the team selection - for the reasons noted by others just before. Do I bother to stay up and watch the game (11pm start here in Melbourne) ???

    Nuno to leave Wolves

    It didn't help Willian José.

    Coronavirus

Yup it’s a fucking big country (continent). I always recall when I first came here I drove from Melbourne to Brisbane (long story) - took 2 days. It’s the same distance as from London to Istanbul. A week later I did the return trip . . . I’ve never done it again.

    Coronavirus

Well as expected Melbourne will continue to be in lockdown for at least another week. That will be 172 lockdown days in 14 months. By the way the new infections are running at around 5 per day or 0.01% of tests. I've lived in Melbourne for two-thirds of my life. I grew up in England and New...

    Summer 2021 transfer window

It was in jest re "deliberately sabotage" . . . should have noted sarcasm. I'm just gobsmacked, as you have said, at the number of of naive, hubris or arrogance decisions rumour or otherwise which is going on at the club.

    Summer 2021 transfer window

I don't have the in depth knowledge that most of you have re the daily state of players, managers etc etc but fuck me it looks like someone is trying to deliberately sabotage the club. I was on the fence re Nuno but unless there was a suitable replacement already lined up, it appears to be me...
