O'Neil In, Out and Shaking it all about

My version of events based on knowing how phenomenally stupid Shi is:

- We hesitate on sacking Gaz afterall he's had a really tough start ()

- We beat Brentford before the international break

- We hesitate again as it's Man City and Brighton and the bookies have us as outsiders and it's not often those boys get it wrong.

- We finally pull the trigger when we fail to pick up sufficient points from Palace, Southampton, Bournemouth, Fulham and Everton

- We make an approach for Rob Edwards. Shi offers 20% less than the stated compensation. Luton say no, we offer 15% less they say no etc etc.

- Edwards pulls the plug on it as it's December and a super busy time of the fixture list he needs to focus on Luton.

- We get a manager/husk in via Gestifute.

- Their first game is Leicester on Dec 21st before Man United, Tottenham, Newcastle , Chelsea Arsenal, Villa and Liverpool form 6 of their first 8 fixtures.

The underdog status in all 4 league yes I would agree we have been. Firstly in that situation you’ve got make yourselves harder to beat. The defensive disaster class has to be of the upmost priority to stop. Unfortunately he struggled a lot last season with it and it’s evident it’s getting worse.
Simply we don’t have enough quality up top to negate the defensive deficiency enough times over 38 games to get enough points to stop up.
As we sit here today our defence is awful, midfield is good and our forward line is ok.
If you concede close to 70 goals a season you really will struggle to survive.
I don't think it's anything to do with quality it's about setup.

We've conceded 6 goals from players running at our full backs and cutting inside in 5 games and either he can't see it or he's doing nothing about it.

It's purely on the manager and not being able to set up a defensive structure.

Our next 5 games are

Villa A
Liverpool H
Brentford A
Man City H
Brighton A

If we don't win any of them (and I don't think many on here would predict us to win any of them) we'd be on a run of 1 win in 19 games. That's half a season's worth.

Depressing stuff.

We were all saying the same things at this time last season and then he pulled the Man City rabbit out of the hat. The chances of that happening again at Villa are probably <5%. This is just going to drag on and on in a lingering death spiral as we circle the relegation drain.
I'm hoping not but then I'm hoping Hobbs sees this quickly and is already sounding out a new manager.

I don't hold out much hope ☹️

No

No I agree in a convoluted way it was what I was saying, the quality is good enough up top if we’re set up properly as a unit.
Point I was making we don’t have enough to win basketball type football.

The players have probably resigned themselves to getting nothing from them too, after Gaz’s fantastic “Newcastle WILL finish above us” shite the other day.

Yep how to place an immediate inferior complex on your squad

Yep. You look at the quality of our team on paper and it's nowhere near the quality of the football it's producing. That might be down to the players in a few often-discussed instances, but not the whole matchday squad.

Not under any pressure, the club's hierarchy are satisfied with performances and acknowledge the difficult run of fixtures

To be fair, we are not Man Utd and won't leak out shit about sacking a manager (before giving them a new deal). Those kind of comments are usual process but will quickly change if results stay shit and performances dive

He's in trouble, that's the equivalent of the board being firmly behind him and acknowledging he's the man to take us forward.

Always ends in the sack and fairly quickly.

It will only take another Chelsea style hammering for that narrative to change. And that could happen in any of the next 4 fixtures. Or all of them. It's unlikely to be none of them.

To be expected really. They've nailed their colours to GON with the new contract. They aren't going to get rid after 4 league games.
