Wolves 3 v PNE 2 - a mental game verdict thread

If nothing else today sounds as if it puts to bed the argument of the so called pundits that our 'fancy dan foreigners' won't be up to the 'muck & nettles' battle that is the Championship.

Jota particularly seemed well up for this and gave as good as he got.

Still got the 3 points so 'up yours'

Dear Norfolk White.

Lulz.

That is all.

Oh and in fighting today.. Oh dear.

Alex Neil claiming they've seen clear video images of one of ours elbowing Pearson in the melee after the sending off.

I read that on their forum. Bonatini supposedly who then went down himself.

Thought the referee started really well and always looked to let the game flow despite some of the challenges but once he started to warn players he needed to prove his authority by showing cards earlier, when he didn’t it gave the impression that anything was OK and tackles started flying in...particularly from Preston. Their number 8 was all over Neves until he got booked and had to tread more carefully.

It was certainly chalk to last weeks cheese. We hadn’t tested their keeper until scoring the goal late in the first half. We were ok but Preston were pressing all over the pitch and were in your face physical rather than sly and dirty like Cardiff. Fair play to Wolves who stood up to it.

We came out with more purpose in the second half and 5 minutes of sublime football that took us to 3 0 should have been enough to finish the game but two defensive lapses caused unnecessary anxiety and we huffed and puffed to the end of the game without the composure we have become accustomed to.

Both Preston goals should have been avoided and we should be talking about a comfortable margin of victory. Preston are a decent side, in the second half had they concentrated more on football than fouls I think they would have had the measure of us. But football cliches are important - play badly and win is the sign of a good side.

If it exists he’ll be banned. It was pretty clear something had happened, Preston players were incensed.

Bonatini had already been substituted so that's bollocks. Johnny Phillips tweeted a video earlier where quite clearly Pearson tries to headbutt Doherty during said melee.

The apparent elbow by Bonatini was earlier in the second half before he had scored when he and Pearson were down near the centre circle. We were on a break with the ball down the right.

Pearson definitely tried to headbutt Doherty in that melee having seen a video on twitter from Johnny Phillips so not sure they can complain again.

Saw the second half v a stream thoughtvwe stopped playing after there first goal. We resorted to launching it or playing sloppy passes Saiss and Douglas in particular. Impressed with Bonatini, Neves, and Jota really sloppy second half. Preston were physical bordering on real dirty

Just watched the highlights - Coady unlucky with the OG, but shit defending before that to allow the cross from where it came

Could be that he was being pulled back and flung his arm back.

Ah right can't say I saw that, but they're hardly blameless anyway. The leniency shown in the first half to their player's was downright appalling. However the pen was an atrocious decision, obviously making up for the way he reffed our previous game against Bristol City.

As for the game, we were very poor particularly first half. I'd be surprised if we managed more than 3 shots on target the whole game. Preston pressed us very well and restricted us to very few chances, however at 3-0 we really switched off and allowed them back into the game with some appalling defending.

Panicky stuff especially at the end as we had numerous opportunities to keep the ball, but like for large portions of the game our passing was very sloppy. Our decision making in the final 10 minutes was atrocious and we most definitely could not have complained if Preston had gotten an equaliser.

90 minutes for Costa on Tuesday night will do him the world of good

The penalty could be seen as soft but it's one of those where contact was made and you've seen them given.

First time I've seen any emotion from Doc he looked mad! I'm glad the boys stood up to the challenge today it's really important we don't let sides bully us.

I thought it was a pen. As soon as you get the wrong side and challenge you canmot get the ball without taking the player. He was all over him thats twice in 2 ganes he got one and did not get the other, should have got them both

Alex Neil saying their keeper was impeded for our third? Maybe by their defender but not by a wolves player

Their suspensions and injuries are building up now

From the South Bank it looked a terrible decision, everyone around me thought never a pen in a million years. Had it been the other way around there would have been outrage.

Completely different team for me on Tuesday. Really don't mind what happens v. Man City. League is priority and we cannot risk an injury to Neves or Jota. Or Leo, Cav, Coady...
