The NFL Thread

While Alan is still in bed, I can tell you he's a very big man who can play tackle either side. Some will say it's a bit of a reach as he was expected to go late teens. Pretty big surprise he was taken ahead of Skoronski, but people are worried that he could just be Guard at NFL level so makes sense

High ceiling, low floor, but worth the gamble especially with a bonus pick. Supposedly it was Jordan Davis who kept him on the straight and narrow at Georgia and it went a bit messy after he left. Puts a lot of pressure on Davis though who had a meh rookie season, although if it goes well the familiarity will help him too
After now watching it all, you can add Nolan Smith to the list.
The best part of the whole broadcast was they showed a lot less of the mentally challenged fans than usual.
Feel sorry for Levis, like Willis last year being there and not picked is humiliating

@Alan what can you tell me about Darnell Wright?
Should be a step up from Braxton Jones.

Total freak athletically. Ran 5.01s 40yd (bit of a red herring stat, obv), which is insane for ~330lbs guy. Can play either tackle position effectively so if Jones steps up on the left, Wright can slot in on the, er, right.

Honestly think the eagles is the only place Smith could have gone and not be a bust. Unless the team who took him pushed him to ILB.

Nice to have a choice between JPJ and Branch. I really hope we go Branch, fills 2/3 holes in our defence single handedly.

He has more or less the same measurables coming out of college as Parsons and is bigger than Reddick.

He's terrible against the run though, or was in college.
Not according to PFF. He'll be 4th in the rotation this year, so will have to time to learn, rather than going straight to a team that's looking for immediate production

That's the point, he'll be brought in on obvious passing downs where he's going to be able to use that ridiculous athleticism on twists and stunts.

Tyler Steen @Alan. Eagles listed him as a Guard, but played Tackle at 'Bama. What's your thoughts? There is an outside chance of a slot available at RG, but a versatile player that can cover across the line in case of injury is a position Philly needed.

He’s decent. Like most Day 2 picks, the tools are there. He never really stood out in a positive or negative way but honestly that’s due in no small part to Bryce being so damn good when the pocket breaks down.

Run blocking is the weaker side of his game, but no doubt he can improve at that given Philly make running their bread and butter (and I’ve not at all been convinced over the last couple of seasons that Alabama’s offensive coaching has come anywhere close to maximizing our talent on O Line). Big question will be how he copes with defenders who are consistently elite; occasionally he would look overawed against the likes of Georgia before finding his feet a bit. If he needs that learning curve every game, it will be a problem.

Howie masterclass again man. Swift is a legit franchise back. Best roster in the NFL by a mile.

Also got Ringo from...Georgia. Swift depends on the injuries, but for a future 4th and Penney already on board, you'd hope that 2 top class but broken RBs equal one top class one. The sort of reasoning that made the Robinson chatter ridiculous

Ringo is a project but the tools are there, sits a season and could be a top 5 CB if he puts it together. Agree on the Robinson stuff, but I'd never take a RB in the first round.

Eagles really putting together a strong contingent of former Bulldogs.

Swift went to Georgia, too! Had completely forgotten that.
