The NFL Thread

Chiefs have cut both their starting offensive tackles, Fisher and Schwartz, and are rumoured to be also letting their starting centre go. They are still over the cap limit even with those players released.

BMB, I think you're wrong about Golladay, I think he is in the top 10-15 receivers in the league, he's really, really good. Lions letting him go is a money issue, not a performance issue. Jonnu Smith I thought looked like he could be ready to take the next step to being one of the top TEs out there. He's a freakish athlete, and while his yards haven't been exceptional, you have to remember that the Titans offense goes through Derrick Henry and AJ Brown and he still produced on a regular basis. I guess judgement may be reserved for another season.

I like Golladay, but no point tagging him if he's not open to a new contract when you are in a rebuild. Best off picking up the 3rd next year

Looks like the bookmakers have nothing better to do:

Odds on Saints starting QB next season:
Jameis Winston 6/4
Taysom Hill 3/1
Deshaun Watson 7/1
Russell Wilson 10/1
Alex Smith 15/1
Teddy Bridgewater 15/1
Andy Dalton 20/1
Marcus Mariota 20/1
Jimmy Garropolo 25/1
Ryan Fitzpatrick 25/1
Sam Darnold 30/1
Tyrod Taylor 30/1
Jacoby Brissett 35/1
Colt McCoy 35/1
Matt Barkley 40/1
Joe Flacco 40/1
Blaine Gabbert 40/1
Drew Lock 40/1
Mitchell Trubisky 40/1
Mike Glennon 40/1
Brian Hoyer 45/1
Blake Bortles 45/1
Robert Griffin III 45/1
Geno Smith 45/1
Matt Ryan 50/1

It was Brees' time, but I am still really torn up over it.

Fitzmagic to Washington. I expect they'll sign a developmental QB in the draft. Maybe Jones if he falls that far

I see Jonnu Smith and Aghalor have both gone to the Patriots. They definitely needed a couple of decent pass catchers.

Makes no difference when you have Cam Newton throwing them the ball.

There's a lot of talk that none of the first round rated QBs will last beyond pick 8.

Jags Lawrence
Jets Wilson
Falcons Fields
all appear to be going in the top 4 if mock drafts are to believed.
Lance will go at 7, 8 or 9 to the Lions, Broncos or Panthers if someone doesn't trade up to 6. So it all depends on how highly Jones is rated. Apparently he's not really the modern type of QB, doesn't have a strong arm or mobility, but is accurate, more Brees than Mahomes

Up to $12.5m for Tyrod Taylor is too much whatever the situation, but it says that the Texans think they may trade Watson or he might sit out

100% of fans assume it means a trade is coming. But a) it weakens Texans bargaining position, and b) Bears are signing Andy Dalton which leaves one less suitor.

I thought Dalton did well with the Cowboys, but Bears fans seem disappointed.

I thought he was pretty poor, given the weapons and how Dak utilised them at the start of the season. The Bears went hard after Wilson, to end up with Dalton will be disappointing. I still think if you trade him it'll be to the Jets, assuming he'll take that, then you get Wilson in the draft. Right wing Trump lover, he'll go down a storm in Texas

tbh I don't watch Cowboys games, so just saw a few highlights. I would have taken him for the Texans - he regularly got the Bengals to the playoffs even if they were always 1 and done.

Lots of rumours had linked Bears with Wilson or Watson, so Dalton is underwhelming but still a (slight) upgrade on their current situation. Does suggest Wilson not going anywhere and Watson price too high.

Falcons restructured Ryan’s which gets us under the cap this year but big burden in 2022 and 2023.

Means we won’t be taking a QB and will likely be trading down. Hopefully someone desperate gives up something stupid.

Saw that this morning, with the teams at 7,8 and 9 all likely to want a QB they should get a decent deal - probably a 2nd, but if there's a bidding war there's an outside chance of a 2022 1st. Even Philly at 6 may be interested as that now brings Fields back in play, although I'd still say unlikely.

He's probably going to go at 3 to Miami, but if Chase is still on the board at 4 I'd stay put and take him. Supposed to be the best WR coming out for a long time, outplayed Jefferson when they were on the same College team despite being younger. I know you have Julio and Ridley, but the former always seems to be injured or playing with one these days and at 32 that's unlikely to get better.

Ryan's still a very good QB which is no bad thing

Yeah Julio been injured all his career really, and always playing “banged up”. So much invested in him though got to continue with him so can’t really spend more resources on that position. With us being less reliant on him though hopefully he doesn’t get injured as much etc. Don’t think you need 3 elite players there. Plenty of “OK” players are dangerous because of the OC and if you’ve got one elite player taking the doubles/triples.

Like when we got to the SB with Jones, Sanu, Hooper, Gabriel, Freeman, Coleman.

They’ve all left bar Jones and been terrible or average at best at other teams.

Absolutely. Tier below the top QBs for me. Certainly can’t argue with his stats. Zero mobility so age shouldn’t affect him like it hasn’t Brady. He’s been let down by coaches/GM though the last few years, but they’ve gone so we will see what next year brings.
