Reports that everyone's favourite monument to avarice is taking a job with some tinpot UAE team. But y'know, he's not bothered about money.

He never goes north of Watford...however east isn't a great issue for a lot of shekel. For a man used to sandbanks UAE sounds just about ideal.

On Neville, managing any Spanish club that expects to be top half of that table would appear to be a thankless job. Understand that you have to break through somewhere and that Valencia is a bigger first job than most, but seems like he's stacked the deck against himself here.

Top half? They expect to be above Barca and Real. The manager before Nuno was sacked for finishing third three seasons on the trot.

That's what I mean, if you're not Barca or Real but not expected to be in a relegation battle you're in a constant position of needing to beat out Barca and Real (and Atletico, to a lesser extent). That's nearly impossible to do.

Valencia is probably the worst Spanish job of the lot as they expect to compete with (and surpass) two of the world's richest clubs on a fraction of the resources. When you've got no hope of matching the expectations of the fans or the board from day one then what's the point?

That can't be right surely?

I was reading something about Neville's appointment yesterday that said Valencia had gone through something like 7 managers in the last three years.

Massively. They have been doing better than pre-season expectations I thought.

Wasn't Clarke linked with Fulham recently?

Not sure. But if it looked like Fulham wanted him why sack him and have to pay him off when there could be compo round the corner? Weird. They are in 9th and pre-season most of their fans seemed to think staying up would be a decent season.

They brought in a lot of new players. Promotion is their aim now apparently!

Absolutely bonkers decision. They have had a bad month but bloody hell.

I'm guessing the fact he wanted to talk to another club hasn't gone down well. The fans certainly turned against him.

Not as if a Prem team was calling, it was Fulham, so can see why the fans were pissed off with him. Clearly the owners felt the same.

It is right, Unai Emery, now at Sevilla.

Sorry, didn't read it properly. He wasn't the last one before Nuno, but they did get rid of him despite that consistency.

All signs point to Nev not staying beyond the end of the season anyway. Get past a Lyon team who have been poor in the CL this season (and hope Gent don't beat Zenit) and they qualify, that'll be a tick in the box, then just do what you can in the league. More about his development than any legacy at Valencia IMO.
