The Goggle Box Thread

I really enjoyed TWD, thought it was brilliantly done in terms of the psychological battle, and I wasn't expecting quite so much gruesome tbh. Very tense.

Also two eps into Black Mirror. Bloody brilliant stuff so far.

I thought the over long build up was unecessary as was the gruesomeness, I almost turned it off at one point and I've never come close to that with TWD before as I really like it.

I just feel like the culmination of the last series and this episode just went way too far and depressing and just leave me wanting to off myself.

Having said that I'm interested to see where the series goes from here.

I'm normally fine with gore, but this was almost too much for me.

The bit with Glenn's eyeball popping out as he tried to speak to Maggie was revolting - and a bit unnecessary TBH. OTT gore for a character the audience will have some kind of emotional connection with was a hard watch.

Taking this away from TWD for 20 seconds....I caught 15 minutes of Russell Howard's new show on Comedy Central. Doing a USA Road Trip with his Mum. I lasted 15 minutes.

The relationship he has with his Mum is just odd and felt really uncomfy watching it.

To be honest never really found Russell Howard that funny, he reminds me of the kid at school that tried too hard to entertain

That was the bit that stayed perfectly true to the comics, they couldn't not have done it to be fair.

Romesh Ranganathan is doing similar with his Mum, as a follow-up to his original series of Asian Provacateur. His attempt is quite funny though.

Really hated the end of Episode 2 of Black Mirror. Totally annoyed me. Episode 3 is fucking awesome though. More than made up for the irksome episode prior to it.

To be fair the show has done the comic justice, it was true to the source material except there was only one victim in the comics. Great episode, it was all aimed at the breaking of Rick (nobody could argue that could have been done in 20 minutes, the episode was about the bigger picture, not one encounter) and that's a massive plot device. Negan will be around a lot longer than The Governer was.

for me, rick was pretty much broken at the end of the last series. he could hardly speak iirc.
anyway, just saying as i found it. hopefully the cat guy will help liven things up.

Yeah.

Survival horror one. Awesome up until it went a bit too meta for me. Those extra layers of reality didn't really add enough to the story to justify being part of the narrative.

Yeah, there was a touch of spinning it out to make up the programme length.

I enjoyed the first one and the third one was ace like you say.

The fourth one has a real change of tone for Charlie Brooker. Almost exhibiting some hope for humanity!

He does have a real genius for taking one aspect of modern life and extrapolating to a perfectly plausible but hideous future.

I thought that was great. Never liked him anyway.

Just watched TWD. It was pretty brutal but not quite as bad as I feared after reading some of the comments on here!

The most horrific bit was the part where I thought Rick was going to have to chop Carl's arm off. That would have been one of the harshest things I'd ever seen in a TV show.

I actually thought the dragging out of the episode was good. It added to the psychological onslaught of it all.

I actually thought Rick would loose his arm especially after Negan mentioned "his right hand man" at the beginning of the episode.

It's pretty well documented that Robert Kirkman really regretted chopping Rick's hand off in the comics, it limited what he could do with him in a big way and I think he as good as admitted that it wouldn't happen in the TV series.

Not seen past Episode 4 yet but will be probably rattling through them this week.

Just a quick mention for the best use of a Radiohead song in a tv programme at the end of Ep3. Made both the programme and the song better as a result.
