The FIFA Debacle

This comment from Tognoni (Blatters right-hand man in the mid-90s) is absolutely ridiculous -

"Even if there is evidence that Fifa people were bribed, where is the problem? With Fifa, or the people who had no choice but to get the World Cup with bribing?"

Is he *actually* attempting to shift the blame?

I think that sort of attitude is why they were still so well liked in many parts of the world. What we see as a bribe over here is just seen as the standard means of doing business in many other parts of the world, you pay a guy enough money and you'll get the decision you're looking for, so for us we're looking at a massive bribery/corruption culture but I suppose for many of those partaking in such deals it's just how business is done.

That's no excuse for the big boys at the top table though, they're obviously in a position to know better and have clearly taken advantage of their positions of power.

Looks like the next Presidential election for FIFA will be on 6th December.

Until then it's Blatter, unless other events overtake him.

Top Blatter aide Walter De Gregorio, FIFA director of public affairs, is leaving "with immediate effect"

Apparently he told a joke about FIFA on a German TV station on Monday.

'De Gregorio set up the punchline by asking who was driving if himself, FIFA president Sepp Blatter and secretary general Jerome Valcke were in a car.

After a pause for the host to comment, De Gregorio gave the answer: "The police."'

He resigned today.

So our FA now being looked at for its links and money given to Jack Warner.

Also, reports that Sepp Blatter will be doing a "Farage" and not actually quit. African and Asian Associations are all behind him and want him to stay on.

Oh seriously no!!! i read that Blatter Is planning to stand again in the next election??? Is FIFA totally full of numpties or should just one of them, just one, buy a gun and put this twat out of his misery.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he rescinded his resignation and carried on, wouldn't surprise me if this was all just a ploy to take the heat out of the situation then he could continue once things have gone a bit quiet.
If he does carry on it'll be interesting to see how UEFA, USA and Australia respond.

Domenico Scala has very publicly said fuck that for a game of soldiers. Interesting times.

It would appear that Blatter might stand for re-election if no suitable alternative candidate puts themselves forward. What credentials are required for Blatter to consider some-one to be a suitable candidate?

From the BBC - Swiss banks reported suspicious activity around accounts of football's world governing body Fifa, says the Swiss attorney general.
Michael Lauber said his office was analysing a "huge amount" of seized Fifa data in its corruption inquiry.
He said he did not rule out interviews with Fifa president Sepp Blatter as part of his investigation.
The investigation could lead to the reopening of the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

Ha ha followed by the declaration of WW111 by Vladimir Putin.

Diego Maradona has confirmed that he intends to stand as Blatters successor.

More trouble for the Irish FA, apparently each player for the team in a 2010 friendly against Argentina were paid $10,000 to "not tackle Messi".

Suspect you could have paid them $10,000 to tackle him & they still wouldn't have got that close anyway.
