This comment from Tognoni (Blatters right-hand man in the mid-90s) is absolutely ridiculous -
"Even if there is evidence that Fifa people were bribed, where is the problem? With Fifa, or the people who had no choice but to get the World Cup with bribing?"
Is he *actually* attempting to shift the blame?
I think that sort of attitude is why they were still so well liked in many parts of the world. What we see as a bribe over here is just seen as the standard means of doing business in many other parts of the world, you pay a guy enough money and you'll get the decision you're looking for, so for us we're looking at a massive bribery/corruption culture but I suppose for many of those partaking in such deals it's just how business is done.
That's no excuse for the big boys at the top table though, they're obviously in a position to know better and have clearly taken advantage of their positions of power.
