Why not drop Ali for Foakes, Lords is usually much better for seam bowling than spin.

The only change I can see them making will be in the bowling department. If Ali isn't fit then maybe Wood to replace him but if Ali is fit then Wood will replace Robinson or Anderson.

We had 50 runs in hand and a new ball at our mercy. If you aren't going to give Anderson at least a couple of overs then he either isn't fit or in contention to be dropped. For the record, if fit I'd have him in the side over Robinson.

We couldn't take 20 wickets with what we had, we can't go in even lighter on bowling and expect to win, and stacking the batting like that is something you might do at 1-0 up, not 1-0 down. If Mo drops out then it's for another bowler, be it seamer or spinner.

Having Bairstow as opener is the kind of gambit that *could* work but I wish people (not so much on here) wouldn't fire it out as an "obvious" solution, he has literally never ever done it for anyone in red ball cricket. The whole point with the surfeit of batsmen once Brook emerged and Bairstow regained fitness is that there is NO obvious solution.

We absolutely won't go back to Foakes after one Test and again, I wish people wouldn't pretend he's 100% infallible behind the stumps, of course he isn't. The Khawaja "chance" late on day four is not one I would have backed him or anyone to take.

My guess would be Ali out for a seamer (Woakes for his batting?) and Root becomes the only spinner

I think Wood will play regardless, I don't see all of Broad, Anderson and Robinson playing again next week.

Woakes has to be tempting with his record at Lord's. I don't like going without a spinner ever though, Root is not a proper option.

Ireland won't be going to the World Cup. Already lost to Oman and Scotland in the qualifying tournament.

Kumar disagreed and said his positioning and footwork was all wrong which gave him no chance.

Yeah, he was right there. It's like a Danny Ward one from the Armenia game where it would have taken a blinder to stop it, but he gave himself no chance which is a terrible look and it was always going to be a goal with how he set up. But I don't think Foakes is taking it more than 2/10. It's a change of direction whoever it is, quick and around ankle high. Would have been an absolute worldie.

Not having that. It’s knee height and if he’s standing half a yard to his left like he should have been (apparently) then he easily get there and then it’s in the “should have been taken category”.

I don't think he's anything like the answer right now. But we can't pick Mo again.

Ahmed could go either way but I like the fact we've picked a wicket taking option rather than a spinner to just tie up an end.

Dom Bess has joined Warwickshire on loan, playing today vs Essex.

I know his numbers were decent for Somerset but I've never been particularly impressed when I've actually watched him. Couldn't turn a doorknob.

The women’s test was really looking good for England 20 mins ago, after a pretty Herculean effort to drag ourselves back into it, but we’re falling apart here. After following it loosely for a couple of days on the radio, the wickets tumbled as soon as I put it on the telly.

West Indies in very real danger of missing the World Cup. They've made it to the Super 6 stage of the qualifying tournament but as they lost to Zimbabwe and Netherlands, they're carrying forward 0 points. Every chance that they need to beat all of Sri Lanka, Scotland and Oman and even then it's far from a guarantee of nabbing one of the two spots.
