Summer 2026 Transfer Window Thread

All for nostalgia, but he's 36, hopefully part of the coaching team if anything.
Just add pace beside him and he'd strengthen the defence a mile. Someone to lead the line, set an example of professionalism and bring some attitude into the group with no winning mentality.

Each to their own, I think it'd be nostalgic rubbish that would just dampen his legacy as we watch him running in treacle twice a week, signing Coady as no doubt we'll be linked with sooner rather than later would be the same. We absolutely need leaders, they just need to still be able to play football at a decent level.

He's retired from International football and has spent the last 3 seasons playing in a pub league where his last club is releasing him at the end of his contract.
Captaining and opening for that Moroccan national team still says something just before this years Afcon.

But propably he knows this is a rotten place nowadays... (which it was already when he left...)

Coady got very very good reviews at Charlton

You have either Saiss or Coady in any playing position next season then it's still gonna be three centre halves. This is finally our opportunity to try something else tactically, because the formation has been a key issue in our decline since Nuno left.

He wasn't a very good Championship midfielder 10 years ago. No doubt he did a decent job picking up a side who were in a slump when he got there with his personality.

Depends what your objectives are, not to double dip then by all means add that type of player. To go back up, then steer well clear. We supposedly are targeting the latter.

Wouldn’t be happy if either were playing. Would be delighted if they were coaching in some capacity
Would still take Saiss playing at some degree, Coady building experience as an assistant coach.
[Might be biased, cause I love Saiss's character.]

Coady would be fine if we're 3 at the back. Still only 33 and was never quick anyway. Saiss is finished now.

Well he wasn't at Wrexham in that system in the same league.

Coady was never a good defender, it's why he always got sucked onto the goal line rather than pressing the ball. What Nuno asked of him wasn't what a traditional centre half does in a 3 and the role he asked of Boly and Bennett to essentially be his bodyguards wasn't usual too. Agbadou when he was good was a completely different player even though nominally in the same position.

People always talk about how lucky Doherty was that Nuno found a unique position for him, Coady was exactly the same which he did bloody well, but doesn't get the same comments. Post Nuno his career has regressed to what he was before he met him - lovely bloke, great leader, good work ethic, average footballer.

Recruitment has been the key issue!

What we need to add to the squad is character and a warrior. That's what Saiss brings to table. We have no one with those attributes in the squad at the moment. He might not be our Pepe, Dante type of signing (a player who can play at high level in their 40's) but I think that's what we need to bring in. To bring in proper veteran leadership, win us fans back and to help the young recruits to develop into right direction.

Nath kept going on about “easy wins” at the fans forum. Signing someone like Saiss or Coady would be an “easy win”.

I have to try and ignore that Saiss himself has been injured for ages and barely played in a farmers league.

Surely the easy wins he was talking about are things he can fully control - kit colour, walk out music, painting the stadium etc..

Not so much an easy win if he Jeff's in the transfer market, ie dumping a player in the squad the manager doesn't want. Saiss, Coady etc.
The only ex player, that would be in reach, I would go back for right now is Raul.

(And Boly, accepting he would be no different to Saiss but I can be a hypocrite there)

What is the deal with Saiss? Is he out of contract or his club season finished? Presume this is maybe a fitness for the world cup squad thing?

Signing off the signing of Saiss, or Coady, or Raul is an easy win for Nath, alongside those things you mention, because it instantly gets the fans back on side.

We have no likeable players and these guys are linked to/associated with our best memories in recent times. Besides, our squad is so pathetic that all three instantly improve us in some way. I’d take all three over the dross we have, even if they’re all mid-30’s and not as good as they were first time around.

But if the manager doesn't play them, not so much. Rob sacked in October and uses Not My Fault 101 "the club signed players i said no to" then Nath sees that easy win gone and seen as no better than Jeff or Jez.

Lets bring in Bully, Keith Downing and John Richards must be good for 10 mins off the bench. We are now signing players for being likeable ffs? We want the club to act like a serious football team again and we're saying that - not Raul, he just wouldn't come
