I must admit throughout Nuno's reign I would quietly ponder at certain times if certain players could flourish with the handbrake off. The big one being Costa and me refusing to believe that he lost what we saw in 2016/17 after the injury. That he's gone to Leeds and its largely been more of the same quelled those questions before it got louder but I've had similar thoughts at various points where players have been isolated/out if form, namely Jota.

That said, the discipline and structure has helped mold Adama in to a much better player than what arrived and I'd worry about him regressing if he was told to do what he wants.

I don't think the instructions are do what you want but more if they see an opportunity, take it and don't fear getting it wrong and put faith in those around you to help out.

Think it was in Tim Spiers piece where he spoke to Dave Jones who worked under him at Sheff Wed and how he worked with him on playing through the lines, playing forward and taking risks on the ball. If certain players are given that sense of freedom we could see them step up and improve quicker.

12million Euros for a keeper about to be first choice at the Euros feels a bit light, even with the comments people keep saying that Rui wants to leave. Can't imagine you'd get many of the keepers here for that fee alone, and the ones you would you wouldnt want.

On Rui I'd be happier to see him leave if a replacement was signing first, not the other way around.

Given his contract runs out next summer keeping him would be the equivalent of loaning him for a year at a cost of about £15m (£10m fee, £5m wages). He's been good but not that good!

On the face of it, its a fair fee. Obviously the elephant in the room is Mendes and what slice he takes, we obviously saw a snapshot of that last year with Doc, at what figure does it become too low a fee?
