Summer 2020 Transfer Window (Extended Version)

Which of:

Patricio, Ruddy, Boly, Coady, Saiss, Vinagre, Neves, Moutinho, Dendoncker, Neto, Jimenez, Podence, Jota, Traore, Sarkic, Kilman, Buur, Jordao and Campana, all of whom are listed as first-team players by the club, don't count? Plus at the moment, Doherty is still our player as is Bennett (and Miranda, and Bonatini, but shrug to both of them); and we can't count Jonny at this time.

Yes, I'm concerned that we have a squad that's too small - especially in the wing-back positions if and when Doherty goes. But for people to constantly come out with "13 players" is just plain wrong.

You'll be called elitist for counting!!

OK, 13 plus Ruddy. Doherty has gone, bar the paperwork. Jordao has played 5 minutes of first team footy, Campana none. Kilman is a reasonable prospect but that's all. Buur is Championship at best. Yes, we'll probably have Ryan Bennett on the bench vs Sheffield United. I think 13/14 players is a reasonably accurate assessment. Put Buur, Kilman and Campana in your squad by all means, but make sure you have a bloody good bet on finishing in the bottom half

Behave, you can't be having Sarkic, Kilman, Buur, Jordao and Campana as first team options. There's talent or potential there in them all, but they're not 'league-ready' first team players, who you'd want to start.

I'm a massive vinagre fan, but the kid could barely get a kick this season, and now he's our number one wing back

It patently isn’t when there are more than 13 on the list. It wasn’t 13 players fit for purpose, just a straight 13 players.

Cool, we have 21 players then so I guess we don't need to sign anyone. Panic over guys! Even Jonny is on that list!

So we have a bad run of injuries/suspensions and we line up

Sarkic - Saiss - Coady - Kilman - Buur - Neves - Jordao - Vinagre - Neto - Campana - Podence

That's alright then...

Oh FFS.

Looks like logging off time again. I’ll leave you all to play with your negativity

Not my list, the club's list. And I think they know better than us as to what they consider to be "first team options".

Either way, it isn't 13 players.

Are so weirdly literal with everything? Would you want them all to start against City? As things stand we've got comfortably the weakest bench in the top 7. No worries though, as the website says the first team has 21 players.

Nuno: "It's a small squad and we must be really proud, but now we need to make good decisions so we do not make mistakes like we did before. We need more players that can help us."

Sorry Nuno, but according to your own website the squad is fine.

And please don't talk about mistakes, it upsets people on TWF

I understand concerns right now in this instance but there seem to be people who think we won’t sign anyone at all this window? Do they really believe that?

No, of course not. But before we kicked off against Sevilla every person on this forum thought we needed three new proper first team players. Opinions on positions differed, but three was the number virtually everyone agreed on. Now we've lost our two wing backs, so that number is up to five, with two weeks to go to the start of the season.

Is it? Is it really?

It’s off putting for those wanting to use the forum. That’s for definite.

I said 2-3 before Doc leaving, I’d say 4-5 now. I have concerns about the first two games but I’m pretty confident that they know we need signings, and it’s now evident we want to evolve/refresh the team so I’m sure that will happen

Exactly, well said

I'm sure you're right. There are suggestions this morning that we've made a bid of €20m for the CB from Bilbao. Let's hope something happens soon

Agreed there. I wanted genuine first team options - the kind you'd be happy to start more often than not - at centre back and centre mid, and then some hot prospect types who you'd still be happy starting one in every four at rwb and cf, with a view to succession planning. I'm happy to give vinagre six months of guaranteed starts tbh as I think it'll do his development the world of good. But we now need 3 first team ready players, at least one of which needs to slot right in and not need time to settle, and start every game until young Luke is ready to be a genuine option.

Comfortably the weakest bench in the top 7?......I'd dispute that, potentially against Sheff Utd we could have 3 of, Jota, Neto, Traore, Podence, Donck, Moutinho on the bench, not many I'd take of the others instead (outside of Liverpool/City obviously

If people wish to portray falsehoods as the truth, such as "OMG we only have 13 players we're all doomed for sure" just because it suits their negative moaning agenda, then yes, I'm going to call them out on it every single time. Just like if someone says that we don't need any new players at all and we'll be fine if they have an agenda in the other direction.

Do we need more quality players? Of course.
Do we need a higher quality bench? Yes, clearly.

But to talk crap, then go all sarky about it when you get called out, that just makes you all look stupid and reactionary and puts people off bothering to discuss it.
