REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Far be it from me to defend May, but she and her band of shitehawks have an impossible situation to try and negotiate, she knows that and so do the EU as surprisingly "we are GREAT Britain" doesn't seem to be cutting through as a negotiation position.

She started off with a stance of you wanted this shit so sort it out by appointing Davis, Fox and Johnson in the positions she did. A year ago I don't think she'd be surprised to see us in the position we are now in after all she wasn't in favour in the first place, but probably expected a softening of the Brexiteer position by now. Instead as a nation we've become more isolationist, more xenophobic and it's all the fault of the bastard foreigners for not giving us what we want and she has to plough on.

In summary she's fucked and as a nation we are fucked alongside her.

She ramped up the rhetoric herself more than once. She actually sounded like Erdogan at one point in the GE campaign.

She deserves no sympathy.

It's her own fault she's in this position. Went for PM role for the sake of being PM and the power. Cameron's replacement should have been one of the Leavers, despite their short-comings. We are now in a position where we have a PM trying to negotiate for something they didn't vote for, didn't want and probably still doesn't. Throw in the fact that the team she has appointed are obviously out of their depth and it's a recipe for disaster.

Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire media mogul and former mayor of New York, has said Brexit is the “single stupidest thing any country has ever done” apart from the election of Donald Trump as US president.

Bloomberg argued that “it is really hard to understand why a country that was doing so well wanted to ruin it” with the Brexit vote, in a series of outspoken remarks made at a technology conference in Boston a fortnight ago.

At that event, Bloomberg, 75, also warned that some workers at the financial media company that bears his name were asking to leave the UK and US because they think the two countries no longer like immigrants and are no longer welcoming.

“It is really hard to understand why a country that was doing so well wanted to ruin it,” Bloomberg said of Brexit. “It was not a smart thing to do and getting out of it is going to be very difficult and is going to be very painful. It will hurt industries. People are already taking space in other cities over there [Europe], us included.”

A couple of things, the economy seems to be growing and the EU seem to be softening a bit on brexit negotiations

The economy has grown by less than its long term average for the last 44 months. And the EU hasnt softened one bit.

I'm sure I'd read they were softening a bit so may would stay in power. Or were they just not interrupting your opponent when their making a mistake

It would suit them better if she fucked off, we might decide what we want then and we wouldn't wildly swing between grovelling to the EU to help us out and calling the EU out as a fascist empire intent on destroying British values.

That's why they're so freaked out about it.

Any chance we could have the Catalonia stuff split off to it's own (or a generic EU politics) thread please? Can imagine it being a popular topic over the next few weeks/months.

Boris Johnson today
We don't think, as far as we understand the matter, that the referendum on independence was well-founded in law.

It isn't clear which referendum he is referring to.

Spain has a say in the brexit deal. Catalonia doesn't.

So it's obvious who we'll support.

Jesus fucking Christ :gloom:

The letter, dated 18 October and written by officials from the Home Office’s immigration section, tells a Romanian national in an immigration detention centre that his request for emergency accommodation has been rejected and he should consider another country. It states: “You could avoid becoming destitute by returning to Romania or another EU member state where you could enjoy access to all your ECHR [European Convention on Human Rights] without interference.”

I assume we'll ignore the ECHR is the Council of Europe, Amber?
