REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

My dad thinks Europe is on it's way to becoming what the USSR used to be, I pointed out that all countries in the EU are democratic and that we have European elections to vote for who will represent us.

My mom thinks that the EU is choking us with laws we didn't vote for, she couldn't name one when I asked her for an example

My step-dad thinks we'll grow more prosperously if we can negotiate our own trade deals and "be masters of own our destiny" and he voted to leave so the younger generation have a chance. He couldn't really answer when I asked him how much and long it would take to define trade agreements. Also, it's not the 1800's anymore and we aren't a global empire

My brother-in-law and sister think we're spending too much on immigrants and they're taking our jobs. The fact that immigrants have a positive contribution on the economy isn't something they believe

i'm the only one in my family who went to university and the only one who voted for

Now I'm of the opinion that even though I think long term we will be better to be out of the EU, I think there is going to be far too many short term complications and issues to resolve to think that leaving is a good thing and we'll end up with quite a sizeable impact on business and in return the man on the street, however, the fact that no one has mentioned what Tusk has said today shows how one sided this forum has become on Brexit and makes this thread pretty pointless.

It's like having a shot on goal when you're 5-0 down

Tusk is saying what we already know. We can't agree a settlement figure and talks won't progress until they do. The EU have said this all along. The only thing different to what Barnier said is the part about deadlocked. I doubt we are close to agreeing a figure

Currency market seems to have taken it very positively.

Yep.

For all the talk of the EU "bullying" us, it's actually gone something like this:

EU: There's a bill left to settle and a few key issues to be sorted before we can move on, can you make us an offer please? You are the ones leaving, we can't do this for you.
UK: Brexit means Brexit.
EU: Come on now, this is serious. Can we have an offer please to at least start discussions?
UK: We won the fucking war, you know.
EU: If there isn't an offer then nothing will happen. You do understand this? And you realise you're wasting more time, after you wasted your own time holding a pointless election for no reason?
UK: We'd like assurances first that you'll give us absolutely everything we want
EU: <Sigh>

We are impossible to deal with because we have no aims, no expertise and nothing to offer.

So we have progressed towards the idea of possibly having trade talks. IE, we must have agreed to be fucked over.

The currency markets like it because they like certainty rather than fucking flim-flam. No other reason than that.

Any trade deal will end up being unacceptable leading to no deal. General Election in May. We will end up paying very little to actually leave the EU but will commit to ongoing payments for every element of the EU we retain and it will end up being the softest of soft Brexit with a review period built in enabling us to rejoin when people stop caring.

I think it's the IP issues that are the sticking point. I can see both sides. Why would the UK pay for something where the IP was originally split now not going to be owned by the UK at all. That's not the same T&C's as when the deal was struck. Of course the EU would say different.

It's all so bloody unnecessary.

It just shows how sacred Brexit is to those that support it. It was the WILL OF THE PEOPLE so you can't dare to speak out against it.

I'm getting more and more pissed off with the whole thing. Brexit is just a really, really shit idea voted for and supported by a large percentage of cunts. We then have a useless Prime Minister who has put a load of incompetent morons in charge of negotiations. They haven't got a sniff of a plan between them and seem to be treating the whole thing as a fun little game.

Spot on T-Dan. This government is increasingly pissing me off.
