Live Match Discussion 2018/19

I cannot fucking WAIT for Palace to kick it into their own net to relegate this bunch of cunts

This is it more journos stating it’s a great defensive display, are BHA that confident they’ll turn over Newcastle on Saturday?

Said it on Saturday, they've gambled the farm on them winning that. But Newcastle are playing well at the moment and Brighton haven't even scored a goal in weeks.

Irony will be they’re on level points with Cardiff last game and Cardiff manage to nick something at Man Utd which isn’t out the question.

I said to the bloke next to me on Saturday it reminded me of Saunders at Derby and Sheff Wed and we know how that ended up.

A Wolves fan called TS after the game saying that Brighton had employed the same tactics against us and that he hoped Brighton got relegated as they weren't worthy of the Premier League. Jason Cunty tore into him saying basically that Wolves had only been in the Premier League 'for 6 minutes' so what did he know about it and that Wolves themselves played exactly the same against his beloved Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and took the league through some luck

Cundy is entitled to his point of view. I would argue that our Stamford Bridge defensive masterclass firstly carried rather more threat, and was infinitely more accomplished.

Brighton's xG against us was 0.12, ours against Chelsea was 0.61.

To put into perspective our xG away at man city was 0.10

Narrowly I can see the comparison, but intent wise they are miles apart - our strategy was to win the game, Brighton's was not to lose.

A great example of how to misuse stats and why xG isn't that good. As with all stats they don't account for tactics and context.

Yeah as a Chelsea fan you’d sit there and say we parked the bus etc. (Which we did). But we did actually get forward and have a plan to score. We had several good counters where better decisions, final balls, luck we would have scored.

Brighton made no effort to score, against inferior personnel to what Chelsea have.

Cundy isn’t very intelligent and/or is deliberately inflammatory so he’s best ignored.

Spurs 29 shots, 5 on Target- Brighton 6 shots 1 on target
Wolves 22 Shots- 5 on target - Brighton 5 shots 0 on target.
78% possession Spurs
68% possession us.

It was attack v defence in both games.

Sky not at all going OTT on the Manchester Derby. SSN live from Old Trafford all day

It'll be 1-0 to City and mega dull. And it'll be Sky's fault.

From an xG point of view we did way better

How so? It shows having seen those games that Brighton had pretty much no goal threat what so ever, it also shows that while we defended too deep against Chelsea we still had a threat and created one of if not the best chance of the game which Jimenez converted and it also shows that we didn't threaten Man City away because we were down to 10 men for pretty much the whole game. It's actually a very good stat if used correctly.

Bernardo Silva is a fucking sublime player.

De Gea has to save that! Feels like Sane has made the difference for City today, real livewire and offers them that outlet down the left.
