January 2021 Transfer Window

I'm already cringing at the response on social media they both don't get a goal and assist Friday

Nuno hasn't sent a first team player out before and had him back to play. That's now 2 in 24 hours

MGW went out to get minutes to be fair, but Cutrone is definitely a first. Can only imagine the two of them must have had some lengthy discussions/his time in Fiorentina has given him a kick up the arse.

If they're simply in to bulk up the squad then it's a decent move. The 10 role we've started playing is perfect for MGW.

I'd argue it's a CB we need if we're going to persist with 4. Coady has stepped up brilliantly but none of our other options look good enough unless Marcal can do it.

Bulking up the squad by recalling a player who has had an unsuccessful loan when they had an obligation to buy for 18m doesn't seem a good move to me especially when the transfer window is open.

I think Cutrone will come in to share the burden with Silva and probably be first choice. It isn't Silva's fault, but he just isn't quite strong enough yet physically to do the role we are asking him to do - but there has been plenty of promise.

My main hope with Cutrone is he has come back with an open mind and the knowledge he has to work hard. The club wouldn't be doing this if Nuno didn't want it.

I don't think he had the obligation unless he started the required games though? This conversation was done the other day though so I may be wrong.

They didn't have an obligation. This keeps being repeated it isn't true, he didn't meet the criteria

His agent confirmed the obligation but took credit for having it removed last month....a few days later Patrick binned him

Happy with that, I liked Cutrone just felt that he was never allowed to get a run of games under his belt (for obvious reasons).

He'll end up being first choice for most games between now and the end of the season, excited to see what he can do if he gets a bit of momentum.

I hope he learned something from his opening spell with us. Namely, don't live on your own, bring family or friends over to live with him.

Not sure why we're always so bothered about this stuff. I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't think what 14 year olds say on Twitter makes any difference in the real world. What our owners, players and manager think and do are of infinitely greater consequence?

Again, not the full truth. The obligation was based on starting I think it was 26 games, he hadn't and wasn't going to, so he removed a redundant clause.

I'm going to evoke the TWF mantra of 'wait until the end of the window' on this one. If that's it and Raul is out for the season or as good as, then I think disappointed would be a fair reaction.

I agree we don't know the plans for this transfer window, Cutrone probably won't suddenly turn into a star but at least him and MGW have some experience and can only strengthen the squad, so makes perfect sense recalling them and is a pretty easy option.

I fear that trying to do a big deal in January and from a position of relative desperation means we may struggle to sign a suitable striker, so at least we have something

The fact MGW & Pat have been recalled doesn’t bode well for our aspirations in this window of bringing in readymade players for our starting 11, IMO.

That said, it’s an obvious choice to bring both players back. Our bench has been full of teenagers for several games now. Adding two senior players to the squad that can both offer us something is a no-brainer.

Where I will draw the line, is if we don’t add any more senior options to the first team squad and use bringing these players back as an excuse.

Could only remove that with Wolves permission though. So, we were looking at this recall option pretty much as soon as Raul was injured.
But they weren't playing him and weren't going to. It was an obligation based on games, not an obligation full stop.

As you've mentioned, I think all it means is we acknowledge the need for them to help us now while we try to get other deals done. If they didn't sign a striker until Jan 30th then people would criticise how long it took, the fact we had no-one here until then, and also that Cutrone was put player but we wouldn't recall him when we needed him. These two are our players and we have every right to use them as we see fit.

I'm in a similar boat to Lycan. I do think there was a bit of an attitude problem first time around but maybe heading back to Italy, catching COVID, living through a pandemic and not having much of an opportunity at Fiorentina has woken him up a bit.

I think he'll come back thrilled that he's going to start more games with a chance to prove fans - and maybe even Nuno - wrong. Not that I think Nuno was the problem in the first place, I just don't think Cutrone was happy not starting.
